Qualified Administrator with Research Experience in Technology or Natural Sciences
Do you have experience conducting your own research and an interest in research ethics? Are you attracted to a job where you have the opportunity to use your analytical skills in a communicative context? The Board for the Examination of Research Misconduct is now seeking a qualified administrator responsible for driving investigations regarding misconduct in Swedish research.
About Npof
The Board for the Examination of Research Misconduct is a government agency established in 2020 under the Ministry of Education. The Board's mission is to investigate and adjudicate issues of research misconduct at the national level. Through its decisions, the Board aims to uphold good research practice and thereby contribute to a high level of trust in Swedish research and Sweden as a leading research nation. In the role of a qualified administrator, you now have the chance to be part of the continued development of the Board's operations. We offer you a workplace where you work in a team alongside engaged and qualified colleagues.
Your Responsibilities
Your main task is to investigate and present misconduct cases before the Board, which constitutes the agency's decision-making body. The task includes several different components, such as:
- Handling and investigating cases, which includes determining what questions need clarification in the case, formulating the suspicions and what the respondents should comment on, and communicating this to the respondents and others. Another example is assessing what materials are needed to make decisions on the substantive issues and obtaining them.
- Contacts with educational institutions, researchers, and experts in cases.
- Presenting cases to the Board, recommending decisions to the Board, and writing the decisions.
- Writing opinions to the court in cases that have been appealed.
You will handle cases related to your research field, but since we are a small organization, you will also handle cases in other fields.
The Board is a small agency that is still in a development phase. Therefore, you will also contribute to the development of operations in both strategic and more operational matters. This may include further development of our examination processes and participating in the work on the annual report that we compile for the government and research funders regarding the handling of deviations from good research practice. You will also participate in seminars, conferences, and other communication and information activities.
Qualifications
- PhD in technology or natural sciences or other education and experience deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Several years of experience in research activities after obtaining a PhD.
- Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
The Following Are Meritorious
- Experience in writing decision proposals and analytical texts.
- Knowledge and practical experience in working with issues related to good research practice.
- Presentation skills and experience in explaining and summarizing complex issues and extensive materials.
Who Are You?
To succeed in this role, you have a genuine interest in research ethics and Swedish research, good judgment, and high integrity. You possess excellent analytical skills and a methodical approach. Among other things, you have the ability to compile, sort, and prioritize extensive and complex materials.
We place great importance on your personal qualities. The work requires good abilities for both collaboration and independent work, and you should have a professional attitude, be structured, meticulous, responsible, flexible, and solution-oriented.
Location
The office is led by an office manager with personnel and budget responsibilities. The Ethical Review Authority is the host agency for the Board and the employer for the office staff. The office is located in central and pleasant premises in Uppsala. You have the opportunity to arrange an agreement with your immediate supervisor to work remotely several days a week.
We welcome your application as soon as possible, but no later than December 10, 2025, reference number 2025-07987-03.
