Summer Job as a Summer Clerk at the Court of Appeal for Western Sweden

The Court of Appeal for Western Sweden is the second largest of the country's six courts of appeal. The main task of the court is to review cases and matters that have been appealed from the district courts within the court's jurisdiction. The court has four adjudicating divisions and one administrative division. Approximately 150 people work at the court. The court is located in central Gothenburg.

Every day, hundreds of cases and matters are resolved in courts across Sweden. Our organization consists of employees with various competencies, each of whom is significant in maintaining legal certainty and high quality at all levels.

About the Position

The court offers law students the opportunity to work as summer clerks at the court during the summer of 2026. As a summer clerk, you will be able to apply your theoretical knowledge in practical work and have the opportunity to discuss legal issues with the court's judges. Last but not least, you will gain such a good insight into the court's operations that you can consider whether a judicial education is a possible career choice for you.

As a summer clerk, you will gain good insight into the court's operations. The tasks correspond in many respects to those performed by newly hired court clerks (judges in training) and mean that you, as a summer clerk, will take minutes at main hearings, conduct legal research, and present cases. Other relevant tasks include administrative duties, meaning the administrative handling of cases from the time they are submitted to the court until they are resolved. You will have a court clerk as a mentor. The court clerk will provide you with support and help you develop.

Qualifications

You must be enrolled at a university and have not yet obtained a law degree or completed the law program before August 2026. By the time of application, you should have completed the sixth semester of the law program and finished courses in criminal law and procedural law.

We are looking for candidates with good grades from the law program and strong legal knowledge, as well as good communication skills. You convey information clearly and simply, both orally and in writing. Other important qualities include attention to detail, analytical ability, good teamwork skills, and the ability to organize and plan your work independently.

To be considered for employment, you must meet high standards regarding judgment, security awareness, and suitability. This means that you uphold democratic values and the state value framework that governs the operations of the Swedish Courts. We also require that you comply with applicable laws.
