Junior Analyst at the Total Defence Research Institute (FOI)
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analysis. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capability.

About the position
There is an intensive effort underway to build both the civil and military defense and to integrate Sweden into NATO. As a junior analyst, you will have the opportunity to work on various issues to develop decision-making and knowledge support that can contribute to increased quality and capability in total defense. Research as well as method development and analytical support are some of the tasks.
The work is carried out both independently and together with clients and colleagues. The tasks can have both long- and short-term focus. The work can also partly be performed at the Armed Forces, the Civil Contingencies Agency, or at the Government Offices. Field and exercise activities with inconvenient working hours may occur.
About the unit
Together, our employees at Defence Analysis form a unique analysis organization with a wide range of experiences and academic disciplines. The department is characterized by our ability to combine analysis and research to interdisciplinary identify, describe, and solve complex problems. Many of our analysts work integrated with our clients to directly support various investigation and planning efforts. Our main clients are the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces, and the Civil Contingencies Agency. We contribute to better mutual understanding between the actors of total defense and to strengthening society's ability to meet future challenges. Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
We are looking for you who have;
- master's degree or will graduate within 6 months in natural sciences, social sciences, or economics,
- knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative analytical methods,
- good knowledge of Swedish and English both orally and in writing.
To thrive and succeed in the role, you collaborate well with both colleagues and clients as well as other stakeholders. At the same time, you are self-driven, take responsibility for your task, and structure and drive your processes independently. You have very good problem-solving analytical skills that enable you to handle and analyze complex problems. Furthermore, you have high integrity, good personal maturity, and an ability to adapt your approach to the situation. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
Meritorious
It is meritorious if you have;
- knowledge and experience of total defense and/or civil or military defense,
- education focused on defense and security,
- at least 1 year of experience in analytical work, research, or investigations,
- at least 1 year of experience leading group discussions or exercises.
