Halmstad University

Halmstad University creates value, drives innovation, and develops people and society for the future.

Since its inception in 1983, the institution has been characterized by innovative thinking and creativity. Today, we offer a broad range of educational programs, with approximately 14,000 students and around 700 employees. Our research is internationally renowned and conducted in multidisciplinary innovation and research environments within the university's two focus areas: Health Innovation and Smart Cities and Communities. The university actively participates in societal development through extensive and recognized collaboration with both the business sector and public sector.

The Communications Department, consisting of 17 employees, works to communicate and market the university's exciting education, successful students, and innovative research in constant collaboration with society. The department is also responsible for the university's event and conference support.

One of our research communicators will be on parental leave for most of 2026, and we are now looking for a substitute who wants to help communicate exciting research and collaboration at a creative and innovative university.

Job Responsibilities

Exciting education, successful students, innovative research in constant collaboration with society – this is our task to communicate and market. You will be part of a department where skilled colleagues with different functions and competencies work together in a creative and learning environment. You will join the group that provides communication support for the university's research. There, you will produce, publish, and disseminate communication about the university's research through various channels and to media and other external actors.

You will work both strategically and operationally, handling everything from individual texts to larger, planned communication efforts that may involve many different functions and people within the communications department, the academy, or other parts of the institution. Actively working with media contacts related to research and researchers' expertise is an important part of the job, as well as supporting and coaching managers and researchers in their communication. The work requires communication skills, particularly a strong ability to communicate in various types of texts in both Swedish and English, along with good knowledge of channels and target audiences. You are expected to independently manage various tasks and projects – often simultaneously – in collaboration and dialogue with individuals both within and outside the institution.

Qualifications

  • You have a university degree in media and communication studies, journalism, or another area deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • You have at least one year of experience in communication work.
  • You can both plan and work operationally with communication, and can independently drive communication efforts and projects.
  • You have documented strong ability to express yourself very well in both spoken and written Swedish and English.
  • You master various communication tools to analyze, plan, and produce communication.
  • Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as flexibility, proactivity, and the ability to collaborate and build contacts in a sometimes complex organization.

Desirable

It is advantageous if you have any of the following experiences:

  • Familiarity with and experience working in the higher education sector.
  • Experience in journalistic work and/or work with press issues and media relations in public operations.
  • Documented experience of communicating professionally in English.

Other

Approximately ten months of temporary employment starting in mid-January 2026, or as agreed.

We value the qualities that gender balance and diversity bring to the organization. Therefore, we welcome applicants with different backgrounds, genders, abilities, and life experiences.

Individual salary setting applies; please state your salary expectations in your application.
