Job Responsibilities

The Department of Nuclear Power Safety (NPS) is seeking two dedicated postdoctoral researchers to study (i) in-vessel melt retention (IVMR) in small modular reactors (SMR) of PWR type, and (ii) interactions between melt-coolant and melt dispersion. The projects are supported by the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (https://www.stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se/ (https://www.stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se/)). The research on IVMR will focus on adapting conventional IVMR methodologies developed for and used in medium and high power PWRs and their further implementation in new SMR designs. The expected outcomes of this project relate to demonstrating the potential effectiveness of the IVMR strategy, which can significantly enhance the safety performance of SMRs by maintaining the integrity of the reactor pressure vessel, i.e., one of the reactor's safety barriers.

Qualifications

Requirements

• PhD degree or foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made.
• PhD in nuclear engineering, nuclear safety, technical mechanics or similar, with extensive experience in thermal hydraulics for reactors, severe accident research, and safety analyses.

Meritorious

• At the time of application, no more than three years since obtaining the PhD or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD.
• Knowledge and experience of computational codes for thermal hydraulics and severe accidents.
• Practical experience in laboratory work related to thermal hydraulics and severe accidents.
• Good communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently.
• Drive and commitment to research work is a significant merit.
• Experience in teaching is meritorious.
• Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
• Scientific competence.
• Pedagogical skills.
