Supervisor for Testing Arenas

The Labor Market and Integration Department is responsible for the integration of newly arrived individuals, labor market issues, the activities for national minorities, and vulnerable EU migrants within Umeå Municipality.

We provide guidance, create opportunities, and contribute to new pathways for people who need support to enter and advance in social and working life. As part of the Labor Market and Integration Department, there are testing arenas where we provide workplaces for participants offered work-oriented rehabilitation.

We are now looking for three proud supervisors to join our team!

Testing Arenas

The testing arenas operate based on two main assignments: work trials and reuse. This means that the testing arenas offer places for participants who need support to move towards self-sufficiency – and the work tasks are within the reuse activities that take place. The work-oriented rehabilitation primarily occurs in collaboration with Social Services, the Social Insurance Agency, the Employment Service, and Region Västerbotten, and the reuse work is carried out in collaboration with Vakin and internally within Umeå Municipality.

At the heart of our operation is the return store. With a total store area of about 1,900 square meters, we are Norrland's largest reuse store. Our premises are filled with clothes, furniture, bicycles, household goods, books, toys, films, music, paintings, and some building materials.

In the autumn of 2024, the testing arenas will start a construction reuse project as part of the ongoing reuse activities. The plan is for the operation to sell surplus building materials in collaboration with ABC Economic Association.

Your Role as a Supervisor

As a supervisor, you will work in daily production, and you are expected to handle the reuse as well as provide support to participants on site. This work often occurs in parallel, but in the role of supervisor, you are also expected to work independently with the reuse activities.

Regarding participants, you should support them in performing tasks by demonstrating and instructing. In many respects, you will be a colleague to the participants with a deeper knowledge of the operation. If necessary, participants may need a sounding board for questions related to the operation but also guidance on other matters. You will also function as support to the team leader in matters concerning the evaluation of the individuals you supervise.

In terms of reuse work, you will manage the flow of reused goods from the reuse houses to customers in the return store / return store - construction reuse. The tasks involve sorting, reviewing second-hand goods, pricing, displaying/selling the items in the return store / return store - construction reuse. The work includes customer interaction and staffing our cash register.

There may be work with forklifts and wheel loaders.

Other tasks may also arise.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with at least a high school education or equivalent training, such as a construction worker or similar. Strongly meritorious is documented experience/competence from practical work in the construction sector or building trade. A B driver's license is required. It is advantageous if you have a forklift license and/or experience operating a wheel loader.

You have documented experience from your previous professional life in supervising or working in a supportive role towards others. You also have experience working in a cash register and with customer interaction or other experience from a service profession deemed equivalent. If you also have previous experience working with reuse, that is an extra merit.

The work often involves physically demanding tasks – which means you should have no issues performing this type of work.

As a person, you are confident and instill trust. You work in a structured, goal-oriented, relationship-building, and solution-oriented manner. You are attentive to the participants' abilities and needs for adaptation, but work to promote empowerment and self-determination among participants.

Your ability to collaborate is very good. It is important that you share the importance of, and stand up for, the fundamental requirements of working life.

Good knowledge of the Swedish language is a requirement. Other languages may be advantageous.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Working hours are scheduled for day/evening and weekends.
