As Sustainability Manager, you will be part of the Strategic Development Department within the City Executive Office.

The department leads Umeå's efforts towards a sustainable future by coordinating strategic initiatives in economic, ecological, social, and cultural sustainability. Our work lays the foundation for the city's sustainable growth and aims to realize the vision of Umeå with 200,000 inhabitants by 2050.

Mission

You will lead approximately 15–20 employees working on various dimensions of sustainable development. You will have operational, financial, and personnel responsibility for parts of the department and report to the department head.

In the role of Sustainability Manager, you will lead and coordinate the municipality's overall strategies for sustainable development. You will be responsible for coordinating and integrating sustainability goals across different administrations and sectors within the municipality. By actively representing Umeå in various teams and steering groups, you ensure that sustainability perspectives are always present and prioritized.

Travel as part of your job is included, both within Sweden and internationally, primarily in Europe. Together with various teams, you will drive innovation and development projects that promote Umeå's sustainable growth. Your leadership is crucial for translating the municipality's sustainability goals into practice and achieving concrete results.

About You

We are looking for someone with a relevant academic background and leadership experience. Experience as a manager with personnel responsibility is an advantage. You should have experience with and an understanding of sustainability issues at the local, national, and international levels. Experience working in politically governed organizations, as well as knowledge and experience of research and innovation systems both in Sweden and internationally, is also advantageous. Your commitment and ability to navigate these environments will be valuable in driving Umeå's sustainable development forward.

You are a confident and clear person, present and open to dialogue, making you an inspiring leader who can guide others. With your courage to lead the way and your enthusiasm, you create engagement and participation.
