GIL has been coordinating personal assistance since 1989. The cooperative has roots in the Independent Living movement, which is based on the principle that individuals with disabilities know best how they want to live their lives. Typically, the person receiving assistance is their assistants' closest supervisor, or a person with specific knowledge about the needs of the individual is appointed.

As a personal assistant, you will support a person with a disability to live the life they want to live. To attract and retain competent and satisfied assistants, we invest in training and events. I am a married woman in my 70s living in a large modern apartment very centrally located in Gothenburg and I am looking for a personal assistant.

I need help and support to function and therefore have double assistance during the day. Together with another assistant, you will help me with most daily activities, such as personal hygiene, interpreting my wishes, and various forms of training and leisure activities.

I need assistance during the day, every day of the week. Two assistants work from 08:00 to 13:30 and two from 14:30 to 20:00. It is also possible to choose two consecutive shifts. You will be part of a team that has significant influence over their working hours, and we also communicate with each other via a shared phone group. You can indicate which shifts you want to work, and if they are available, you will get them. This way, you will also know which shifts you have been assigned for the upcoming four weeks.

Just before Christmas 2001, I had a brain hemorrhage classified as an occupational injury, and a few years later, I was injured during an operation intended to help me walk better. It failed completely, and as a result, I became fully wheelchair-bound. Today, I have regained some mobility in my left arm and foot. I have also lost my speech but understand everything that is said and am good at showing what I need help with.

My interests are general, and I enjoy being outdoors, shopping, some culture, and especially exercising, for which I need a lot of support.

You are proactive, attentive, and see what needs to be done. You are smoke-free and fluent in Swedish, as you will need to interpret for me with my surroundings. You are reliable, have a great sense of humor, and view care as a given. You should have experience, good teamwork skills, and be accustomed to working with people. Personal chemistry is important, and I place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

The position starts as a temporary employment, and if we get along well, the employment can transition to a fixed-term contract as long as the assistance assignment lasts, with a working degree of 50%.
