Job Responsibilities

The Lund Protein Production Platform (LP3) is a cross-faculty center at Lund University for protein production, characterization, crystallography, and structure determination.

LP3 is a node within the national research infrastructure Protein Production Sweden (PPS) and has close collaboration with researchers from the MAX IV laboratory and the European Spallation Source (ERIC).

You will play a crucial role at LP3. Your responsibilities will include equipment maintenance, project planning, client communication, and administration. You will also work experimentally on a project basis and maintain a continuous dialogue with the researcher/client and LP3 colleagues. You are expected to take responsibility and drive projects with great independence. The laboratory tasks include:

• Developing and optimizing expression systems for each project.
• Developing and optimizing protein purification systems for each project.
• Scaling up existing protocols for protein expression and purification.
• Quality controlling protein samples and optimizing protocols.
• Expressing and purifying proteins to predetermined quality and quantity within set time frames.
• Maintaining a cell culture laboratory with special responsibility for eukaryotic cells and bioreactors.
• Analyzing, documenting, and reporting experimental data.
• Laboratory supervision of visiting researchers.
• Continuous communication and dialogue with LP3 users.
• Administrative tasks such as ordering, invoicing, etc.
• Keeping up to date with techniques and current literature to adapt and/or develop new methods and experiments.

Requirements

The successful candidate is a skilled life-science practitioner with a good sense of service, who is attracted to laboratory-based projects in a teamwork-oriented environment with clear deadlines.

• Ph.D. in biomedicine, biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, or other relevant fields.
• A deep understanding of the principles and techniques behind protein production and characterization.
• Several years of experience in multi-step protein purification of labeled and unlabeled recombinant proteins for structural and/or functional studies.
• Experience in culturing and producing proteins in higher eukaryotic cells.
• Experience in analytical techniques for biophysical and biochemical characterization (e.g., SDS-PAGE, SEC, MS, UV-VIS, UV-CD).
• A strong interest in learning and developing new techniques in protein production and biophysical characterization.
• Ability to perform laboratory tasks safely and efficiently, and to maintain a safe and well-organized laboratory environment.
• Good computer skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Experience presenting results and methods.
• Being an effective team player.
• User- and service-oriented.
• Experience in teaching.

Additional Qualifications:

• Experience working within a national research infrastructure.
• Experience culturing prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells in bioreactors.
• Experience in project planning and execution.
• Experience in budget planning and invoicing.
• Good knowledge of Swedish in spoken and written form.
• Ability to start the position on March 1, 2025, or shortly thereafter.
