JOB DESCRIPTION

This advertisement is for those who want to work as a correctional officer but have not completed our correctional education.

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. The tasks at the prison/detention center are varied: care, surveillance, search, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. The work at the detention center is often routine-driven and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the detention center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

Evening work until 7:00 PM is regularly included, and you will work every other weekend. You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the mandatory basic training of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, which lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary employment, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your possibility of permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We want you to have:

• Work experience (also in the form of seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment). Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment.
• Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
• Good computer skills.
• Driver's license B.

It is an advantage if you also have:

• Work experience from correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work.
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.

OTHER

We place high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. A security check will precede the decision on employment. Some positions are classified in a security class, and a security review with a background check will be conducted before a decision on employment is made. For positions with a higher security class, you need to be a Swedish citizen, but you can have a foreign background.
