Subject Description

The area of the position involves advanced characterization and modeling of ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable metallic materials, particularly steel for improved structural integrity.

Job Responsibilities

The position includes research and teaching as well as related administration. The research will initially be conducted within the framework of a fellows position in the WISE program, which entails the development of a comprehensive research activity. Teaching duties are expected to take place at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as within doctoral education.

The assistant professor will be given the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and gain qualifications that can provide eligibility for another teaching position with higher qualification requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Higher Education Ordinance). The assistant professor can apply for promotion to associate professor in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12 c of the Higher Education Ordinance.

Eligibility

Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, this should be someone who has obtained a doctoral degree or has reached equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline for the assistant professorship. However, those who have obtained a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria for employment as an assistant professor at KTH are those specified in Section 1.3 of KTH's employment regulations in relation to the established employment profile.

It is of utmost importance that the applicant has demonstrated

• scientific proficiency shown through scientific publications, conference participation, involvement in research collaborations, and other commitments in the scientific community such as review or expert assignments.
• potential for qualification for higher teaching positions. This includes potential for independent development as a researcher and teacher within the relevant subject area as well as the ability to establish, renew, and develop the relevant research area.

It is of secondary importance that the applicant has demonstrated

• experience of postdoctoral stay in a research environment other than the institution where the applicant obtained their doctorate. Experience from research and development work within industry or other organizations may be assessed as equivalent to a traditional postdoctoral stay at another institution.
• interest in and insights regarding pedagogical development within the relevant subject area.
• interest in and insights regarding leadership in academia, collaboration with the surrounding society, and awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

It is also of significance that the applicant has demonstrated

• administrative proficiency.

Special Assessment Criteria for Promotion to Associate Professor

When evaluating applications for promotion to associate professor, the provisions of Section 1.2.4 in KTH's Employment Regulations will be applied. The ability to teach in Swedish is a merit that is given great importance in the application for promotion.

Time-limited to: The appointment is permanent, but for a maximum of six years, and can be renewed if additional time is required to achieve the purpose of the appointment due to the teacher's illness, parental leave, or other special reasons. However, the total duration of employment may not exceed eight years. The appointment is part of the Tenure Track system at KTH, and the assistant professor will be evaluated for promotion to associate professor after application.
