About Us

The Refugee Medical Reception is part of the Expert Units within Region Health.

The reception serves as a resource unit for refugees during their establishment period and up to one year after the establishment period has ended. We strive for equitable healthcare through tailored interventions. Our team consists of doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, social workers, and medical secretaries working closely together. Our mission is to investigate and treat migration-related health issues to strengthen the health of newcomers and facilitate integration. We also offer health examinations for asylum seekers and supplementary health examinations for school health services.

In addition to our clinical work, the organization is tasked with being a knowledge support regarding migration-related health issues, health examinations, and torture injuries among refugees. Counseling and consultation to neighboring healthcare providers as well as lectures and participation in the development of regional guidelines are also part of our work. We collaborate closely with the Refugee Child Reception, Crisis and Trauma Reception, and the Knowledge Center for Equitable Healthcare, and we are also part of both regional and national networks concerning issues within our field.

About the Job

The work as a nurse with us is very varied. The clinical work mainly consists of health examinations of asylum seekers, both adults and children, but medical mapping, follow-up, and health support for our patients who are in the establishment phase also occur. The health examination work includes referring patients correctly within the healthcare system when necessary, which involves a significant amount of contact with other healthcare providers and managing healthcare obstacles. Sample collection is also part of the job.

The other part of the assignment involves educational health interventions aimed at newly arrived refugees and knowledge dissemination to other healthcare providers and agencies that meet our target group. The reception regularly holds health schools for newcomers where the nurse is responsible for a couple of information sessions, such as vaccination and self-care. Knowledge dissemination to other healthcare providers and authorities occurs, for example, through a network for health examination providers that the organization coordinates and participation in conferences within our field.

We regularly host nurses from primary care for internships and also frequently lecture at various basic education programs in healthcare and social care, including nursing programs. As the number of refugees and the countries they come from vary, and both legislation and the assignments for our partners change, we continuously work to adapt our operations and think innovatively. The team is regularly offered joint supervision.

Your Qualifications

You are a licensed nurse with at least a couple of years of clinical experience. You should be comfortable working independently with standard nursing tasks such as assessment, counseling, and vaccination. Previous experience working with refugees or asylum seekers is an advantage. A commitment to improving healthcare for vulnerable groups is a valuable asset in this work. The breadth of the position and the fact that the team is small require good flexibility and collaboration skills. We are also looking for someone who is a good listener, skilled at building relationships, and creative in problem-solving. Personal suitability will be given great importance.
