We are now looking for someone who enjoys working with people and actively wants to develop within the profession of personal assistant. You will be working with a cheerful and playful 17-year-old girl.
You will develop, gain new knowledge, and new experiences in your role as a personal assistant.
About the position
The client is multiply disabled and requires physical, cognitive, and medical support in her daily life.
As the client has reduced muscle tone and irregular movements, she needs support in all transfers and care, as she cannot sit, walk, or stand on her own.
The client has a congenital cognitive impairment that means she lacks speech, which makes communication occur through sounds and facial expressions and partially through body language. To enhance communication, an iPad is used between home and school.
The client has many medications that are given daily, and you as an assistant need to administer them according to a schedule.
The client uses an inhaler, and all fluids are taken via a button/peg, which is vital for her.
The client enjoys crafting, going on trips in her car, and taking walks, and it is your responsibility to ensure these activities take place. You are her arms and legs.
The aids used to make the client's daily life functional include a wheelchair, a ceiling lift with a harness, and a standing frame. You need to learn how these work and be attentive if something seems incorrect.
The client lives with her guardians in Linköping, where city buses run regularly. There are parking options available if you have a car.
About you as an assistant
We see that you are calm, attentive, and have social skills as you need to interpret the client's needs and communicate with guardians at home.
You need to be able to take your own initiatives. As a person, you need to be driven and reliable as emergencies may arise that require quick responses.
You are structured and can work according to schedules and routines that are important for the client's well-being.
You need to have physical capacity as some strength and technique are required for lifting in and out of the wheelchair, managing diaper changes, and using the standing frame, which are important aids in the client's daily life.
You also need to have some medical knowledge or understanding, as medications are a necessity for the client's well-being.
Working hours and Employment rate
You will be employed by Björkö Assistans, which is the client's assistance company. We are now looking for an assistant for a position comprising approximately 10 hours per week, with the possibility to work extra as needed. The employment rate may be increased in 2025. You will work every other weekend and some weekday mornings.
