Our patients meet us at Region Uppsala's own health centers or within habilitation, and we provide advice over the phone via 1177. Your mission

As a counselor at the youth reception in Uppsala County, you will primarily work with individual conversations with young people aged 12–22 who seek help on their own. Young people come to the youth reception for both sexual and mental and/or social issues. The work at the youth reception is always team-based, where the different professions support each other to work holistically.

An important part of the job is to assess the need for support and appropriate care level, help the young person to the right institution, and create contacts and collaborations around the young person with, among others, parents, municipalities, social services, schools, primary care, or psychiatry. You should have a good ability to meet young people in a curious and trusting manner and work with our mission, which primarily involves providing advice and support, but also, based on a good alliance, being able to conduct limited treatment interventions in the area of sexual health. An important part of the work consists of outreach and preventive measures carried out in the form of school visits and information about the activities to both young people and professionals in the local area. You will participate in joint supervision and meetings with other counselors at the youth receptions in the county.

Our operations

The youth receptions in Uppsala County belong to the management of Close Care and Health in Region Uppsala. There are a total of 9 youth receptions in the county, and we target young people aged 12-22 who seek help on their own.

The receptions are often located in premises connected to various health centers throughout the county, but not always. At the receptions, counselors work together with midwives and doctors. Together, we help young people achieve good health both physically, mentally, socially, and sexually. We strive to meet each young person respectfully and knowledgeably in a permissive atmosphere. The youth reception is directed directly at young people and their specific needs. The youth reception always works on the initiative of the young people themselves, and the adherence to the young person is significant.

Your qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work and several years of experience in psychosocial work with children and youth, preferably from social services and/or youth receptions. Basic psychotherapy training (level 1) and experience in treatment work are meritorious. Also, sexual health competence, which includes good knowledge of LGBTQI+ issues, is of course highly meritorious when working at a youth reception. You may be a licensed health and medical care counselor or in the process of applying for a license.

As a person, you should be genuinely interested in working with young people, want to work in interdisciplinary teams, and wish to develop the operations. You are secure, communicative, and flexible in your professional role. Your ability to create contacts and collaborate with young people, parents, and other actors is very important. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
