About Amerikanska Gymnasiet, Halmstad

The school is located on the premises of Halmstad University. The school is now in its third academic year and has about 180 students studying Natural Science, Economics, or Social Science programs. Teaching is conducted in both English and Swedish by a competent team of teachers with a strong sense of community. We are growing and looking to expand our team with a special education teacher.

About the Position

We are looking for a part-time special education teacher. As a special education teacher, you work as part of the school's student health team and play a key role in promoting and preventing issues. You also work operationally to support teachers in the learning environment, where activities such as lesson observations are an important part of daily work. You ensure that students receive the right support and that teachers have the necessary knowledge to make the teaching accessible to all students.

You also work closely with the school management and act as an extended arm to ensure that teachers and students have the right conditions to succeed. Together with the school management, you are responsible for planning and implementing support at the individual, group, and organizational levels, as well as for students in need of special support. In collaboration with teachers and parents, you provide support in adapting studies for students. You establish action plans and conduct investigations, such as educational assessments, when needed. You also support principals in school development issues and actively participate in the school's development work. You will support students with structure, planning, and study techniques. We expect you to have a good understanding of compensatory aids and competence in digital teaching tools.

The position is a permanent employment with an initial probationary period of 6 months. Start date by agreement.

Your Profile

We are looking for someone who is a trained special education teacher or has equivalent experience. Previous experience in teaching is a requirement. It is also advantageous if you have worked with high school students. You have experience in establishing action plans and conducting educational assessments, as well as good knowledge and experience of working with students with reading and writing difficulties, as well as students facing challenges in mathematics. You also have knowledge and experience of working with language development approaches. You have a professional approach in dealing with students, colleagues, and parents, and a good understanding of people's different circumstances. You are good at collaborating and building good work relationships with a coaching and guiding approach. As a person, you are solution-oriented. You see opportunities and always lead challenges and problems towards solutions. You have an overall positive attitude.

You are expected to have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing. You have the ability to use a wide range of digital teaching materials and have a strong digital competence.
