Summer Interns as Nursing Assistants

About the Position

Are you studying the fifth semester of the nursing program and interested in working as a nursing assistant? Do you want to start your career at one of Northern Europe's largest hospitals? With us, you will help create the future of healthcare together with patients.

As a nursing assistant with us, you will have the opportunity to strengthen your knowledge in preparation for your future profession. Under the guidance of a licensed nurse, you will work in direct nursing care and practice specific nursing tasks. You can work in somatic or psychiatric care. Our operations are conducted at Sahlgrenska Hospital, Östra Hospital, Mölndal Hospital, Högsbo Hospital, and Rågården (Gunnilse). The needs of the departments will determine which hospital you will be placed at. You will receive a good introduction and guidance.

Somatic Care

As a nursing assistant, you will meet patients in need of medical care and rehabilitation. You will be part of a team with various professional categories. Under the guidance of a licensed nurse, you will work closely with patients, which requires a strong interest in people, patience, and the ability to understand the patient’s situation and needs. Your work will also include documenting patients' conditions and the actions taken. As a nursing assistant, you may perform tasks such as initial interviews for new patients, daily IV checks, venipunctures, conversations and care for patients, and assisting in care planning and medication management.

Psychiatry

Working in psychiatry may involve, in addition to the above-mentioned tasks, having supportive conversations with patients and participating in assessment interviews. In daily work, you will meet individuals who are scared, in crisis, and having a tough time. Therefore, it is important that employees are secure and can build trust. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and participate in activities and conversations aimed at helping patients feel safer and better. We are looking for someone who

• is a nursing student who has completed the fifth semester by June 2025
• has experience with the Melior journal system
• has at least three months of work experience as a nursing assistant, child nurse, or caregiver in inpatient care.

We are looking for summer interns during the vacation period weeks 22-35 (May 26 - August 31). You should be able to work 8 consecutive weeks, of which 4 weeks in July. Qualities valued for the position include the ability to work independently and take initiative. Furthermore, you should be adaptable to different work situations. We will consider personal suitability when filling the positions.

To provide our patients with good and safe care, it is important that our employees have good language skills and the ability to communicate in Swedish. Your language level should be at least B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), SVA 1 (Swedish as a Second Language 1 in municipal adult education), or equivalent.

At Sahlgrenska University Hospital, care is provided around the clock, which means you may work days, evenings, nights, and weekends. Sahlgrenska University Hospital has a time allocation linked to night shifts, which reduces weekly working hours for each night worked.
