University Lecturer in Law

The Department of Economics, Geography, Law, and Tourism operates at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. The activities include research and education in the fields of business administration, law, economics, statistics, geography, and tourism science.

The subject of law primarily conducts education within the Administrative Law Program, which is a three-year bachelor's program offered at the campus in Östersund in conjunction with political science.

The interdisciplinary theme for the program is trust in public administration and anti-corruption. The law courses in the program are aimed at providing students with knowledge, skills, and evaluative ability to work in public administration. The profile subjects within law are administrative procedural law, social law, and public procurement. Additionally, the subject offers a wide range of educational opportunities including standalone distance courses (for example, Legal Overview Course), law courses in other educational programs (for example, the Social Science Program), and commissioned education.

Job Responsibilities

The work mainly consists of teaching law at the undergraduate level and in commissioned education. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include supervising students, course development, course management, and participating in the development of educational programs. The applicant is also expected to participate in the pedagogical development work of the subject within the framework of the employment.

Teaching and other work tasks are primarily located in Östersund.

Professional development and administration occur within the framework of the employment according to applicable working time agreements and local guidelines. The work requires some travel between the campuses in Östersund and Sundsvall. Teaching primarily takes place on campus. To some extent, teaching will occur in distance courses, which means web-based teaching and recording of lectures. The work includes being a seminar leader and training students to improve their legal methods, both through written exercises and seminars.

Eligible for the position of university lecturer in law is someone who has obtained a bachelor's degree with law as the main subject or has equivalent competence in the subject area for which the employment is intended.

Other Requirements

Those who are to be employed as university lecturers must have demonstrated pedagogical skill.

Excellent knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form is a requirement for employment.

Personal Characteristics

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria for hiring a university lecturer include the degree of such competence that is a requirement for eligibility for the position. The assessment of pedagogical skill should receive equal attention as the assessment of other eligibility criteria.

Academic skill is assessed based on the level of education with a focus on law beyond the eligibility requirement, grades concerning the qualifying education, and the grades and quality of the thesis.

Pedagogical skill is primarily assessed through successful teaching in law in Swedish. This may refer to teaching in both academic environments at colleges or universities as well as teaching in professional environments, e.g., internal training or other teaching assignments, or teaching at the high school level.

Documented ability to successfully plan and conduct teaching in Swedish within the area of public law, for example, administrative law, transparency and confidentiality, data protection, and municipal law is meritorious. Experience in various forms of teaching, such as campus and distance education, thesis supervision, various examination forms, course administration, pedagogical development, and engagement in learning issues is also meritorious, as well as experience in teaching outside academia, for example, in training initiatives aimed at employees in other private or public workplaces. Experience working in the public sector, particularly related to combating corruption, is also meritorious.

Employment and Start Date

Fixed-term employment: The position covers 100% of full-time from 25-07-01 or by agreement, but no longer than until 26-06-15 or 11.5 months after the start date.
