University Lecturer in Criminology

Gaskeuniversiteete/Mittuniversitetet is located in the heart of the South Sámi area in Saepmie. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is a cross-regional institution with operations at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. The activities include research and education in subjects such as English, Gender Studies, History, Criminology, Literary Studies, Social Science, Sociology, Political Science, Swedish as a Second Language, and the Swedish Language. Research is conducted within each subject as well as within the Risk and Crisis Research Center (RCR), Forum for Gender Studies (FGV), and DEMICOM.

The subject of Criminology is part of a joint organizational unit with the subject of Sociology.

The subject collegium for Criminology and Sociology operates across regions and has activities in both Sundsvall and Östersund. At the Östersund campus, there are programs in Risk and Crisis Management, Human Resources and Working Life Studies, as well as independent courses in Criminology. At the Sundsvall campus, there is a Social Science program and a Bachelor's program in Criminology. In addition, there is also a distance education offering consisting of both progression and breadth courses. The unit's research is organized around the areas of Violence and Crime Prevention, Risk and Crisis, Work and Organization, and Society, Power, and Critique. Parts of the research are linked to the interdisciplinary research environments FGF and RCR.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include teaching, primarily at the basic level within the subject of Criminology, but teaching within the subject of Sociology may also be relevant. The holder of the position is expected to contribute to the development of the collegium's work as well as to the pedagogical and research-related environment at Mittuniversitetet's locations. The position includes administration according to the applicable working time agreement and local guidelines.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as a university lecturer is someone who has obtained a master's degree in Criminology or a related field, has completed higher education pedagogical training or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge, and has demonstrated pedagogical skills (HF Chapter 4, Section 4).

Other Requirements

The person to be employed as a university lecturer must have demonstrated pedagogical skills.

The applicant must be able to perform administrative and pedagogical tasks that require understanding of, and ability to use, both Swedish and English. Teaching is primarily conducted in Swedish, so good knowledge of Swedish is of great importance.

Emphasis is also placed on personal qualities such as social competence and good collaboration skills. Furthermore, you need to be able to work independently, be flexible, and have a good ability to plan your work.

Assessment Criteria

As assessment criteria for the employment of a lecturer, the degree of such competence required for eligibility for the position shall apply. The assessment of pedagogical skills shall receive equal care as the assessment of other eligibility criteria.

Experience in teaching and research within the unit's research and educational areas is meritorious. Particularly meritorious is experience in teaching and research in the area of violence and crime prevention. Since the position involves student contact, good collaboration and communication skills are important.

The employment is a full-time temporary position, starting according to agreement, but no later than January 31, 2025.
