Current Employment in the PREVENT Project
The current employment is within the PREVENT project, funded by the Swedish Research Council, and is part of the research group International Child Health and Nutrition at the Department of Women's and Children's Health link (https://www.uu.se/institution/kvinnors-och-barns-halsa/forskning/enheten-global-halsa-och-migration/internationell-barnhalsa-och-nutrition/globalt-forebyggande-av-icke-smittsamma-sjukdomar/prevent-forskningsprojekt).
PREVENT aims to co-create, implement, and test an intervention consisting of health talks and coaching via phone, as well as community outreach activities, to reduce cardiometabolic risks among high-risk groups in the Uppsala Region. The primary goals are to co-design a pandemic-safe outreach initiative that engages the public to become more active and promote healthy lifestyles and to test the effect of an intervention where participants receive health coaching via phone and support from the local community. This interdisciplinary study has been developed by researchers from Uppsala University and Karolinska Institute in consultation with Region Uppsala and the Swedish Industrial Design Foundation (SVID).
Job Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the execution of field activities according to the research plan and maintain accurate documentation of all field activities.
- Be responsible for recruiting research participants in the field for participation in the PREVENT study, including community screening activities and other initiatives to promote recruitment.
- Establish and conduct screening procedures for participants including blood tests at the care site or collection of other biological samples as needed.
- Assist in the development of relevant documents for field activities, such as study protocols and study plans.
- Conduct high-quality recruitment and data collection procedures using qualitative and quantitative research methods, ensuring that data is stored in accordance with legislation.
- Be responsible for conducting remote coaching sessions (focusing on a healthy and active life) for participants in the PREVENT study and subsequent maintenance sessions.
- Support the community-oriented components of the PREVENT study, including recruitment for inspiration sessions in the community and engagement and referrals to community programs for a healthy and active life.
- Contribute to the process by improving ideas and implementation in our standard procedures.
- Assist in translating surveys within the Mom2B study into English and Arabic.
- Interview participants in sub-studies of the Mom2B study in Swedish, English, or Arabic.
- Review literature relevant to current studies.
- Other tasks as determined by the project leader.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in social sciences, global health, or public health (or equivalent).
- Documented experience in field studies for at least one year, including qualitative and quantitative data collection, engagement of relevant community stakeholders, and community screening activities/recruitment of participants.
- Documented experience using REDCap Data management software.
- Documented experience in planning and supporting community outreach initiatives.
- High proficiency in spoken and written Swedish, English, and Arabic.
Desirable/meritorious
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Strong interest in field studies.
- Team player with experience working in interdisciplinary teams with broad expertise in public health or global health, anthropology, health systems, social robotics, etc.
- Experience collaborating with non-academic partners during fieldwork.
- Experience organizing or leading working groups within events.
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and efficient with strong problem-solving skills and a flexible mindset who thrives on multitasking.
- Fluency in other minority languages (e.g., Persian, Tigrinya, Kurdish, etc.).
About the Employment
The position is temporary, for 12 months. The scope is full-time. Start date is 2025-05-07 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
