Economist at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology

Gothenburg University meets societal challenges with diverse knowledge. 56,000 students and 6,600 employees make the university a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive educational programs attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, Gothenburg University contributes to a better future.

At the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and teaching are conducted across large areas of knowledge - from molecule to human. The operations consist of five sections: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.

The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking an economist, placed at the Section of Physiology. The Section of Physiology is a preclinical unit that, due to its responsibility for undergraduate education, research, and doctoral education in physiology, constitutes Sahlgrenska Academy's complete environment for the subject of physiology. The section consists of the subject units neurophysiology, circulatory physiology, renal physiology, perinatal physiology, gastro physiology, endocrinological and metabolic physiology.

We offer a stimulating, operationally close workplace with good opportunities for professional development. As an economist, you have a broad role and work closely with the other economists in the section, the department's economic coordinator, and the section's management. You are also part of a network with the department's other economists. As an employee at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology, you are offered the opportunity to work remotely up to two days a week, and Gothenburg University has several benefits such as wellness grants, see here (https://www.gu.se/om-universitetet/jobba-hos-oss).

Job Responsibilities

As an economist at the Section of Physiology, you provide qualified operational support for financial issues concerning the section with a focus on externally funded research. In collaboration with the section economist, you participate in the section's budget and financial closing work. The position involves financial administrative responsibility within several research projects as well as financial administrative support to researchers. Your tasks include, among others:

  • financial closing, budgeting, analysis, and monitoring of research groups' finances,
  • monitoring and reporting of your research groups' external funds, e.g., grants from the Swedish Research Council, FORTE, Vinnova, and the EU,
  • establishing and following up various types of agreements, e.g., direct procurement agreements and collaboration agreements with the Västra Götaland Region, primarily Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a relevant degree in economics at the university level, or equivalent qualifications that the employer deems equivalent. Experience in similar administrative work, preferably within a university or college, is an advantage. You are a service-oriented and unpretentious person who thrives in a dynamic environment with varied work. You have a desire to continuously develop in your professional role and a genuine interest in economics. You are expected to be able to plan your work based on established timelines and are structured. You have good computer skills and proficiency in Excel and Word. It is advantageous if you have worked in the financial system Unit4 Agresso and the budgeting and monitoring tool Hypergene. You are engaged, competent, and flexible.

Since the work involves a lot of contacts, both internally and externally, you find it easy to collaborate, communicate financial information to non-economists, and express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English.

The position offers good opportunities for further development in the role of economist. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

The tasks may change over time.

Employment

The position is a permanent employment, 100% full-time, located at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date: as soon as possible or by agreement. A probationary period may apply.
