Job Responsibilities
We are now looking for a mentor for Youth in Summer at Malmö Museum. If you have experience and enjoy working with young people and creative processes, we have a summer job that is just right for you.
In Malmö, young people aged 16–19 can do summer internships. For many, this is their very first work experience and a meaningful and developing occupation during the summer break. Our goal with Youth in Summer is to give each young person the opportunity to develop and prepare for future career choices and gain experience of the labor market. At Malmö Museum, we will welcome a total of 82 young people in the summer of 2025, distributed over two periods. We are now looking for someone who wants to work with mentoring about 8 of these young people per period, in an exciting new project related to one of the area's buildings and outdoor environments.
For this role, you need to have previous experience working with the target group of young people aged 15–19 and have a good ability to communicate in Swedish, both spoken and written. We are looking for a mentor who is creative and proactive, with the ability to inspire and engage young people in their work. If you have education or experience in process or project coordination, this is an advantage. Experience in mentoring is also an advantage.
You will have support from colleagues and other mentors in the organization, but you are expected to independently support and instruct a group of about 8 young people. The role includes mentoring in various practical tasks and performing these together with the young people. Additionally, it may be relevant to independently facilitate and conduct workshops and group activities. You will also handle some simpler administrative tasks, such as contributing to the management of attendance reporting for all of the museum's Youth in Summer interns.
The assignment is for 11 weeks, from June 1 to August 15, 2025. The first two weeks consist of planning and startup work, and the last week is for follow-up and reporting, with eight weeks in between for mentoring summer interns.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- High school diploma
- Experience working with young people in the age group of 15–19 years.
- Good ability to communicate in Swedish, both spoken and written.
It is an advantage if you have:
- A completed or ongoing further education in pedagogy/social sciences or education that the employer assesses as equivalent.
- Education or experience in process or project coordination.
- Experience in mentoring.
- Experience working with events or production in the creative sector.
As a person, you are independent and structured, have the ability to organize activities, and are responsible and ensure that tasks assigned to you are completed. You find it easy to create new contacts, collaborate, and maintain relationships. You are empathetic and have a coaching approach, which means you have the ability to adapt how you convey messages to others and an understanding that each individual needs to be met at their level.
