Sydsvensk Arkeologi is looking for an Archaeologist/Project Manager in Historical Archaeology

Sydsvensk Arkeologi AB works with contract archaeology in southern Sweden, primarily in Skåne. We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Regionmuseet Skåne and have offices in Kristianstad and Malmö. We offer services in all types of archaeological assignments – investigations, preliminary studies, and excavations. Additionally, we perform specialist analyses in osteology, metallurgy, ceramics, and flint.

Archaeologist/Project Manager

specializing in historical archaeology, primarily based in Kristianstad.

As an archaeological project manager at Sydsvensk Arkeologi, you will be part of an engaged team with broad expertise in contract archaeology, research, communication, and analytical work. You will lead your own projects, primarily focusing on the medieval period and later times, both in urban and rural environments. At the same time, you should be prepared to work with all types of investigation objects. We are in the process of expanding our expertise in historical archaeology, and in that work, you will have an important and driving role.

Our contract archaeological operations are characterized by variation, and we carry out everything from small monitoring of excavations to large investigations of complex archaeological objects. You should be prepared to perform varied tasks within the description of the current position. Our assignments are located throughout Skåne and sometimes in adjacent counties. Regardless of the location, work occurs throughout this area.

We are looking for someone with practical and documented experience of managing their own archaeological projects in historical urban and rural environments. You have an academic degree in archaeology, preferably in medieval archaeology/historical archaeology. Experience working with the younger Iron Age/Viking Age is also considered an advantage.

You are confident in working independently in all aspects of contract archaeology but also enjoy working collaboratively with others. You work in a structured manner and possess good communication skills. You have a very good ability to express yourself in writing and have documented experience in writing reports and scientific articles. Experience in archaeological communication is a plus. As a project manager, you have documented good goal fulfillment and are accustomed to handling multiple parallel tasks. We would also like you to have experience in contract archaeological tendering according to the Cultural Heritage Act.

Duration: Permanent. Probationary period of 3 months. Start date May 1 or by agreement. A driver's license is required.
