Do you want to contribute to better health for everyone?
Are you a versatile person who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to contribute to better mental health for youth?
In an ongoing research project at Karolinska Institutet, the PEDALS project, we are investigating the prevalence of mental health issues and psychiatric conditions among youth in Sweden, and their need for support and help.
The goal is to gain knowledge about how many people have these issues in Sweden but perhaps more importantly to understand how care and support should be organized in society. Approximately 6,000 school students aged 14 to 17 and their parents, in 240 different school classes across Sweden, will participate in a web-based interview.
The Department of Global Public Health is an interdisciplinary institution aimed at deepening knowledge about how the health of the population can be improved at local, national, and global levels. Many of the department's researchers are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision-makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master's programs and researchers actively participate in teaching at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.
Your Role
This project is ongoing, and you will be part of a team with another coordinator, an academic coordinator, and other researchers within the project (psychologist, child and adolescent psychiatrist, and administrative support). As a project coordinator, you will handle the daily practical work to implement the project as well as the development and implementation of research protocols and procedures. Your role includes recruiting high school schools, maintaining contact and engagement with the recruited schools, and being responsible for conducting the study in the schools. You will also be involved in organizing and administering the web-based interviews and surveys used to investigate the prevalence of various psychiatric issues and needs for care. Additionally, you will coordinate work with various healthcare and community stakeholders (e.g., TILIA, Bris, Första linjen, BUP) that are part of the development work.
The coordinator role involves a lot of contact with people at different levels, some diplomacy, technical problem-solving, and travel within Sweden. It is important to be persistent and willing to take initiative in daily work to drive the project forward. You will have many points of contact and are expected to weave these together and be one of the project's faces outward.
The position is a fixed-term employment for 1 year at 100%.
Who are you?
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree, e.g., in education or equivalent, or a teacher in high school.
- Experience and understanding of the school environment and conditions.
- Experience working with youth.
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing.
- Good knowledge of Excel.
In addition to this, we see that you have good collaboration and communication skills as well as persistence and the ability to drive your own work independently.
It is advantageous if you have:
- Documented experience of working in research studies in project form.
- Experience in survey data collection.
- Experience in applying for research grants.
- Knowledge of ethical guidelines for research and confidentiality issues.
- Experience with the web application RedCap (management of research data).
