Do you want to make a difference for people experiencing homelessness? Apply for the role of guide with us this summer!

We will invite you to joint group interviews in step 1 where we will tell you about BoCenter and BoKlara, the roles as guides during the day/evening and awake night shifts. In step 2, we will call you for a personal interview, for which we will request an extract from the police criminal record as well as references. Please indicate in your application how you are available this summer and whether you are interested in working days/evenings and/or nights. Also, indicate if you have any preference regarding the target group of women or men.

BoCenter's (for men, Fleminggatan, Kungsholmen) and BoKlara's (for women, Högbergsgatan, Södermalm) daytime activities and emergency accommodation for men and women experiencing acute homelessness are in need of hourly substitutes for day/evening/night shifts for summer 2025, with the possibility of continued assignments based on the needs of the operations.

In the role of guide in our daytime activities and emergency accommodations, you will be offered a varied job where you are available and support participants based on their needs and situations. The daytime activities are donation-funded, open during the day with a focus on providing a safe place for community, rest, meals, support with basic needs, and support for change. Our emergency accommodations receive placements through social services, many within the framework of Stockholm City's Roof Over Head Guarantee (TÖG). Our daytime activities and emergency accommodations are low-threshold, meaning there is a high tolerance for participants being affected by alcohol and other substances, as well as having complex issues that may manifest in poor impulse control, difficulties in social interaction, and similar. No day is the same as there is a different composition of participants with varying well-being and needs.

An important task for you in the role of guide is to create good relationships and support participants towards positive change. This work includes providing information about and linking to various forms of support and interventions that the participant is entitled to access, as well as facilitating and motivating a good dialogue and collaboration with the professional network that the participant needs. Since a large part involves providing support with basic needs, it is part of the guide's duties to perform practical tasks such as laundry, cleaning of rooms, serving meals, handling belongings and storage. In the emergency accommodation, administrative tasks such as documenting daily risk assessments, ensuring correct invoicing documentation, and ongoing journal keeping according to the National Board of Health and Welfare's regulations and general advice on documentation in operations conducted with the support of SoL are also included.

Furthermore, you will work to increase participant involvement in the operations and plan and carry out house meetings and activities together with the participants.

We are looking for someone with post-secondary education, e.g., treatment pedagogue, social pedagogue, or other post-secondary education deemed equivalent by the employer.

You have:

  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness with active substance abuse and/or mental health issues
  • Experience working in open daytime activities and/or around-the-clock operated accommodations
  • Experience working based on LaB and MI
  • Knowledge and experience of social documentation according to the National Board of Health and Welfare's regulations and general advice on documentation in operations conducted with the support of SoL
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written

It is an advantage if you are multilingual and have experience in service or work in vulnerable environments.

To succeed in the role of guide, you are calm, structured, service-oriented, and have good collaboration skills. You need to be resilient, clear, and have the ability to empathize with others' situations as well as set clear boundaries. Of course, you identify with the values of Stockholm City Mission.

Stockholm City Mission is a non-profit organization that works to create a more humane society for all. We do this by working with social care, education, and labor integration. This is something we have been doing since 1853 when we were founded to help those who were worst off in society.

Our goal is for everyone to receive new life chances, strengthen their own power, and be involved in society. Stockholm City Mission offers people emergency help, advice, and support for social rights, housing, work training, and education to prevent and break social exclusion. Our primary tool is for people to strengthen their belief in themselves and their own abilities. In this way, we together create a sustainable and more humane society for all.
