About the Unit

52nd Air Base Company is part of the 161st Air Base Battalion, which belongs to F 16, Uppland Air Wing. The company consists of six platoons. The company's tasks include airport operations in the form of airfield maintenance and rescue services, as well as the operation and maintenance of technical systems. The company is also responsible for the protection and surveillance of air bases. The company conducts readiness services for combat aircraft and ramp services for transport aircraft and helicopters. The company also has air terminal capability, which is a strategic resource in the Armed Forces.

The Position Offers

You will be part of the 52nd Air Base Company's Communication Troop. The troop is responsible for the technical operation of the airport. The work is very varied and developing. The tasks mainly consist of operational and maintenance actions on systems affecting flight safety. The position means that you will continuously be trained and developed. The job requires good physical fitness, and there is an opportunity for training during working hours. The troop consists of a mix of people with long experience and a strong desire to deliver results and share experiences.

Main Responsibilities

As a communication technician in the 524th Communication Troop, you contribute to keeping the airport operational for flying units. In this role, you will independently and as part of a team carry out qualified operations, maintenance, and monitoring of ground technical equipment. You are part of the function that maintains the technical infrastructure necessary to operate from Uppsala Airport. You also contribute to ensuring flight safety at the airport through the actions taken on the technical infrastructure. The work consists of performing preventive maintenance on power supply, airport lighting systems, landing aids, IT systems, telephony, networks, and radio equipment. In addition to preventive maintenance, the work also involves troubleshooting and corrective actions in case of failures. The equipment you work on is often in active operation and affects flight safety. In your role as a communication technician, you will also act as an expert in projects and issues related to the airport's technical systems and infrastructure. Your tasks will include conducting internal training within the Armed Forces and with external trainers to maintain competence on technical systems. Previous experience with airport systems is not a requirement for the position.

Qualifications

  • High school education with passing grades
  • Driving license B

Meritorious

  • High school or post-secondary education with a focus on electronics, electrical engineering, machinery/vehicles, or equivalent knowledge that can be assessed as equivalent by the employer.
  • Completed Swedish military service, GMU, or equivalent Swedish military basic training with passing grades.
  • Experience in electrical, radio, telecommunication, and data communication.
  • Experience in installation work, electrical, telecommunication, or data.
  • Several years of experience in technical tasks, preferably within a larger operational organization.

Uppland Air Wing, F 16, is headquartered at Uppsala Garrison. The unit is part of the Swedish Air Force and is responsible for the operation and surveillance of Uppsala Airport as well as the training of conscripts in various positions within the Air Force. The unit also leads the 161st Combat Control and Air Surveillance Battalion, which directs combat aircraft in the air and manages the constant surveillance of Swedish airspace. The unit operates from several locations in the country and is an important part of the growth period that the Air Force is facing.
