Department of Molecular Sciences

Postdoctoral Researcher in Plant Catabolism Laboratories to Study Biomolecular Condensates

A two-year postdoctoral position is available at the Department of Molecular Sciences, SLU, Uppsala. The department consists of approximately 110 staff members and collaborates with three other departments to create an inspiring research environment at BioCentrum on the Ultuna campus in Uppsala. Here, expertise in chemistry and biotechnology, plant biology, mycology, plant pathology, microbiology, food science, computational genetics, and advanced infrastructure such as plant growth facilities, microscopy, molecular biology, X-ray, and NMR is available. The department conducts research, teaching, and environmental monitoring in inorganic, physical and organic chemistry, biochemistry, natural product chemistry, food science, and microbiology. About the Job

A postdoctoral researcher will work within a research program funded by the Swedish Research Council, aimed at increasing knowledge about biomolecular phase separation and condensation. The successful candidate will join the dynamic international environment at The Plant Catabolism Laboratories, which conducts high-quality interdisciplinary research on biomolecular condensates, autophagy, calcium signaling, proteolysis, and their interactions. The postdoc will employ biochemical, biophysical, cell biological, and genetic methods to advance the mechanistic and functional understanding of yet unexplored and recently discovered biomolecular condensates (e.g., Gutierrez-Beltran et al. 2021; Liu et al. 2023; Xie et al. 2023; Liu et al. 2024; Liu et al. 2024; Zou et al. 2024). A specific goal of the projects is to gain insight into enzyme regulation and dynamics in a confined molecular environment within biocondensates both in vitro and in living cells. We work with several experimental organisms in our laboratories, including Arabidopsis and Chlamydomonas.

Your Background

We are looking for highly motivated early-career researchers who have already demonstrated excellent scientific skills, evidenced by one or more high-impact publications, preferably related to biomolecular condensates/phase separation. Candidates with documented experience in plant cell biology/biochemistry and particularly protein-protein and/or protein-RNA interactions are especially encouraged to apply. Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English are expected. To be eligible for the position, the applicant must hold a PhD in life sciences obtained within the last three years.
