Department of Aquatic Resources

We are looking for new staff for the Department of Aquatic Resources (SLU Aqua), Coastal Laboratory. You will contribute to our work in providing advice to management and developing knowledge about the sustainable use of ecosystems in coastal and marine areas. You will particularly contribute to the development of knowledge bases regarding the environmental effects of offshore wind power, sustainable blue economy, and physical measures to strengthen coastal and marine environments.

About the job

Your main area of work is applied research that supports sustainable blue industries and the restoration of coastal and marine environments. You will also contribute to method development, conduct risk, impact, and effect analyses, and actively participate in collaborative processes for these objectives.

Your tasks include performing data analysis and literature review independently and in collaboration with others, writing scientific reports and publications, and sharing results with society. The work involves collaboration and dialogue with stakeholders in society for co-creation and mutual understanding. The tasks may change over time according to the needs of the organization.

Your background

You have solid knowledge in marine biology relevant to Swedish marine areas and globally, as well as the capacity for both qualitative and quantitative analyses. As a person, you are responsible and strong in written and oral communication. You enjoy working in a team but are also comfortable working independently. You are quick to learn new things, accustomed to working systematically, and have a flexible approach. Strong emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as collaboration skills, accuracy, and subject matter expertise, which should be exemplified in your application.

You should:

  • Have strong knowledge in marine biology and marine ecological processes relevant to Swedish conditions
  • Have documented capacity to work methodically and complete both simple and complex projects
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of national and international management processes affecting the focus areas of the position
  • Have good written and oral presentation skills in both Swedish and English

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience in research on marine ecosystems
  • Experience in work related to offshore wind power
  • Experience working within government agencies and international organizations
  • Expertise in fish and fish communities
  • Expertise in nature-based solutions
  • Expertise in Sweden's role in global contexts within the focus areas of the position
  • High scientific merit (publications, higher academic education)

Eligibility

PhD in biology or ecology, preferably with a focus on marine ecology
