Permanent Full-time Position as 1st Research Engineer at Myfab Uppsala
Myfab is a national research infrastructure aimed at supporting outstanding research and innovation by providing a laboratory with advanced equipment for micro/nanofabrication and material studies in a cleanroom environment. Myfab Uppsala is an open resource that accommodates a large number of users. Most of these come from research groups within engineering or natural sciences at Uppsala University, but many are affiliated with other scientific fields and institutions or companies.
The staff at Myfab Uppsala is responsible for the operation of the laboratory and its equipment, as well as for various forms of user support. Approximately 10 people are directly connected to the laboratory, and a few others are part-time borrowed from research groups. We are now looking for a 1st Research Engineer who will be responsible for all chemical laboratory operations.

Job Responsibilities
As a 1st Research Engineer at Myfab Uppsala, you will play a central role in ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-functioning chemical operation within the laboratory. The work includes responsibility for chemical management at all levels – from storage and registration in the university's chemical database to user training and compliance with applicable regulations. By keeping yourself updated on regulations and safety requirements, you ensure that operations are conducted to the highest standard.
A key part of the role is to train new laboratory users in the safe and correct handling of chemicals and to be a continuous support in their ongoing work. You will serve as an expert resource in the laboratory environment and actively work to create a safe and well-organized workplace. Safety and order in the laboratory are a clear priority, and you ensure that routines are maintained and developed as needed.
In addition to chemical management, you will be responsible for regularly checking and maintaining chemical-related equipment and safety systems. This includes both preventive maintenance and troubleshooting in case of any operational disturbances. The position also includes ongoing contact with suppliers and external service providers to ensure that equipment and materials meet the needs of the operations.
The work is primarily conducted in a cleanroom environment and places high demands on accuracy, safety, and quality. The role involves both independent work and close collaboration with other laboratory staff as well as external service personnel. As part of Myfab Uppsala, you are expected to actively contribute to a well-functioning research environment and support the laboratory's users in their daily work.
Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant chemistry field, or equivalent competence as assessed by the employer.
- Extensive experience in chemical management, including handling of chemical waste and allergenic chemicals.
- Good ability to communicate in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing, as well as to convey knowledge and instructions.
- Basic computer skills.
- The work requires high accuracy, initiative, and independence, as well as commitment to safety and quality work.
Desirable Qualifications
- Practical skills and experience in equipment/instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work.
- Training and experience with the chemical management system KLARA, or similar systems.
- Experience working in a cleanroom.
- We place great importance on your personal qualities, such as the ability to teach and instruct, both individually and in groups, as well as the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- Particular emphasis will be placed on the ability to work with a service-oriented attitude and with engagement and participation in the laboratory's overall operations.
