The Dysmelia and Arm Prosthesis Centre in Örebro is a national knowledge centre with high competence in both research and treatment of individuals with dysmelia or acquired hand/arm amputations. Since September 1, 2025, we are one of four units in Sweden authorized to provide care for dysmelia within the framework of National Highly Specialized Care (NHV).

We are located in modern facilities in the V-house at Örebro University Hospital. The Dysmelia and Arm Prosthesis Centre has outpatient services for children, adolescents, and adults. A large portion of our patients are referred from other regions in the country. We work in interdisciplinary teams comprising occupational therapists, physiotherapists, orthotists, orthopedic technicians, pediatricians, hand surgeons, and orthopedic surgeons, adopting a patient-centered approach. Our interventions vary based on the need for information and care. Examples include surgery, orthotic treatment, assistive device fitting, prosthetic treatment, and training. A significant part of our operations involves research, education, and collaboration, both nationally and internationally. Organizationally and locally, the Dysmelia and Arm Prosthesis Centre is part of Orthopedic Technology, which belongs to the Rehabilitation and Assistive Devices business area. Approximately 35 employees with various professions, administrators, occupational therapists, researchers, physiotherapists, orthotists, and orthopedic technicians work at Orthopedic Technology.

Clinical Work - The unit has three occupational therapist positions, currently held by four people, responsible for the different treatment teams: the hand dysmelia team, the arm dysmelia team for children, the leg dysmelia team, and the adult team for dysmelia/arm amputation. In addition to being responsible for planning team clinics, you will work with needs assessments, activity and function assessments, orthotic fabrication, assistive device fitting, and training in activities both individually and in groups, often in close collaboration with other team members, such as physiotherapists and orthotists. Part of the work also involves consultation and supervision for parents, relatives, or caregivers near the patient.

Research - The unit conducts many clinically oriented research projects, and participation in various treatment studies is therefore part of the job. There are also good opportunities for independent research with supervision within the unit. Region Örebro offers a consolidated research infrastructure in the field of R&D, with possibilities for funding research time within employment. Applications for funding are assessed competitively, and the approval rate is good.

We are looking for you who are a licensed occupational therapist. A Master's degree, or an ongoing Master's program, is meritorious. We would appreciate if you have previous experience working with children, rehabilitation, hand rehabilitation, orthotic fabrication, and if you are interested in evidence-based care and research. You have good verbal and written communication skills in both Swedish and English. You have a desire to work in teams, have good cooperation skills, and are communicative, flexible, and responsible. We place great emphasis on your personal suitability. A Category B driver's license is suitable as car transport is involved.

Orthopedic Technology is located in modern and well-functioning facilities at Örebro University Hospital and has clinics in the county's three hospitals. We also receive patients from other parts of the country as we have one of the largest arm prosthesis teams in Sweden.
