You will belong to the Strategic Planning Unit, which is responsible for the municipality's long-term urban planning, with a focus on steering documents and sustainable strategic land and water use. We are responsible for preparing planning materials for the comprehensive plan, maintaining the continuous comprehensive planning, and developing guidelines.

We work in close collaboration with other parts of the municipality, politics, business, and external actors. Our daily work is characterized by cooperation, knowledge sharing, and a common commitment to development.

We are now strengthening our team with a new role – Strategic Environmental Planner – an important function in developing and clarifying the environmental perspective in our urban planning.

Your responsibilities

As a Strategic Environmental Planner, you will have a central role in integrating environmental perspectives into long-term urban planning, with a special focus on comprehensive planning and early stages.

As part of the assignment, you will contribute to the development of working methods, approaches, and structures for how environmental and sustainability assessments and environmental issues are handled in the planning process. Since the role is new, there is an opportunity to influence how the assignment develops over time. Here you become a crucial link between strategists and planners – you create understanding between different perspectives and contribute to making environmental issues understandable, relevant, and easy to implement in practice.

You will work in connection with both comprehensive and detailed planning, and your tasks include among other things:

• drive and develop work with strategic environmental assessments, environmental impact descriptions, and sustainability assessments
• participate in comprehensive planning and other strategic planning processes
• provide qualified support on environmental issues throughout the entire planning process
• produce or commission, coordinate, and quality assure environmental investigations – with a focus on environmental assessments, environmental impact descriptions, and sustainability assessments
• produce materials, guidelines, and working methods within the environmental field
• contribute with environmental scanning and handle new and complex issues.

You will operate at the interface between strategy and practice, where you are expected to drive development as well as contribute to more traditional investigative tasks. The role involves great variation, from working with overarching structural issues to producing or reviewing concrete materials.

As part of our development, we also see that you can contribute and support the unit's work with GIS, analyses, and visualizations related to environment and planning.

Who are you?

We are looking for you with a relevant higher education or university degree, for example in cultural geography, urban planning, or environmental science.

You have several years of experience working with environmental issues related to physical planning, preferably within comprehensive planning, as well as several years of experience with strategic environmental assessments and environmental impact descriptions. It is positive if you have experience of commissioning and reviewing environmental investigations as well as working with sustainability assessments.

The role requires that you have good knowledge of the Environmental Code, the Planning and Building Act, and within GIS, and you are welcome to have knowledge about analysis and visualization in GIS.

As a person, you are self-reliant and take responsibility for driving your work forward. You have good analytical skills and thrive with handling complex issues where you need to weigh different interests against each other and find realistic solutions.

You are collaborative and have an easy time building relationships, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a good work climate. At the same time, you have pedagogical and communicative skills – you can translate complex environmental issues so that they become understandable and useful for different target groups.

You have the ability to structure, prioritize, and see the big picture – and appreciate a position where you both get to develop new things and contribute to ongoing work.
