Police District Norrbotten is Sweden's largest and northernmost region and is one of the police districts in the North Region. The geographical area spans 14 municipalities – from Arvidsjaur Municipality in the south to Kiruna Municipality in the north.

Police District Norrbotten is divided into four local police districts: Luleå/Boden, Northern Lapland, Piteå/Älvdal, and Eastern Norrbotten. At the district level, there is also an investigation section, an intervention group, and a dog unit. Furthermore, there is a district office.

The Local Police District Luleå/Boden is part of Police District Norrbotten. Within the local district, there is intervention and crime prevention operations, investigation groups, as well as support and services.

We are now looking for a Detention Officer for Luleå.

Job Responsibilities

Your main task will be to work in our detention facility by receiving and handling persons who are deprived of their liberty and being their closest contact during their time in the detention premises. Many are deprived of their liberty for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to, for example, intoxication. You will also work with simpler investigative measures in the detention facility as well as other common administrative tasks such as transcribing interrogations and handling seized items.

In addition to the above responsibilities, you may, if necessary, perform other tasks within internal and external service, such as working at the reception, handling seized items, and registering reports. Work in other locations within the county may occur.

The work pace varies depending on the tasks, and the work can be physically demanding, requiring you to be in good health.

Qualifications

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent education, or education combined with work experience that the employer deems equivalent.
  • Work experience in working with and dealing with people in vulnerable and/or problematic situations, as deemed relevant by the employer.
  • Category B driver's license (for manual transmission vehicles).
  • Good computer skills.
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
  • Good understanding of the English language and the ability to express yourself well in English.

The following are considered meritorious for the position:

  • Current work experience working with persons deprived of their liberty, e.g., within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, as a detention officer, at an HVB/SiS home, as a security guard, or other experience deemed relevant by the employer.
  • At least 1 year of current work experience working with and dealing with people in vulnerable and/or problematic situations.
  • Basic understanding of legal terms acquired through education or work experience.
  • Other language skills besides Swedish or English that the employer deems relevant for professional practice.

This means you can work independently but also have a good ability to collaborate and work in a team, as collaboration is a large part of everyday life. You will also meet people in vulnerable positions, which places demands on your approach and communication skills.

Furthermore, we see that you have a high degree of personal maturity and are secure in yourself. You act professionally and conduct yourself with integrity. You are a secure person who is comfortable taking initiative, making decisions, and solving the problems you are faced with.

Other Information

Work Location: Luleå. Work in other locations may occur.

Working Hours: Period planning 5:3. 24/7 operations (day, evening, weekend, and night).

Start Date: According to agreement.

Function: Detention Officer.
