Statens institutionsstyrelse (SiS) is a government agency responsible for providing individually adapted compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse problems. SiS also executes closed youth care. We do this in youth homes and homes for adults with substance abuse issues across the country. Working at SiS offers you a challenging and exciting career. Regardless of where you work within our organization or what role you hold, you help create life-changing change.

SiS Youth Home Tysslinge, located outside Södertälje, receives non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial issues, criminal backgrounds, and substance abuse problems.

About the Workplace

SiS Youth Home Tysslinge is a facility in the highest security class, receiving young people at high risk of threats, violence, and absconding. The institution has a total of seven wards, accommodating young people placed under the Care of Young Persons Act (LVU), young people sentenced under the Act on Closed Youth Care (LSU), and one ward consisting of places for young people who are cared for in isolation for a period (VIE). Most of our young people are often in legal proceedings or already convicted of serious crimes and have connections to criminal networks. School is a vital and central part of the care and treatment for these young people and serves as an important protective factor. The school operates under the Education Act and provides individually adapted schooling within introductory programs.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) for a permanent position.

SiS is responsible for the education of all registered young people, regardless of their issues or placement form. All young people residing in the youth home must receive the education they need and are entitled to. At Tysslingeskolan, we offer teaching at the comprehensive school and upper secondary school levels within the framework of language introduction and individual alternatives. We work with a special educational needs approach and provide continuous professional development. Tysslingeskolan currently consists of thirteen teachers, one special needs teacher, one study and career counselor with administrative responsibility, and a principal. The school is constantly developing and is highly prioritized within SiS.

As a special educational needs coordinator here, you contribute an important special educational perspective to the school's entire work. We are looking for someone who enjoys meeting students where they are, creating motivation, and adapting teaching so that every student has the opportunity to succeed. In your role as a special educational needs coordinator at Tysslingeskolan, we expect you to be a natural part of daily teaching while also participating in meetings regarding and with students. You should appreciate the ability to operate in the special educational field at the individual, group, and organizational levels, including the entire home as a resource in the work focused on each student. Your duties include conducting pedagogical assessments, investigations for special support, and action plans. During the 2025/2026 academic year, attendance work has been prioritized, and the school health team has a collaboration with SPSM for support, where we see that our special educational needs coordinator will become a key person in the continued work. Another expectation is the ability to mentor teachers, develop teaching together with the teaching staff, base work on and ensure the implementation of the local school health plan, and in this work support the principal in planning and developing school health work.

We have our LVU students for shorter periods and our LSU students for longer periods, but the operations and student base are characterized by rapid changes. You will collaborate closely with the teaching staff and other professions, such as study and career counselors and psychologists, and you are also a natural part of the school's health team. As a special educational needs coordinator, you are also part of a national professional network with special needs teachers and special educational needs coordinators from the agency's institutions in different parts of the country.

As a new employee, you will undergo SiS basic training to prepare you for your new role in SiS operations.
