The County Administrative Board employs approximately 300 staff members who act as the government's representative at the regional level. Our mission is to develop the county and ensure that national political goals are implemented locally. We strive to be an agency free from discrimination and value the qualities that diversity brings to our operations.

The Nature Conservation Unit is the largest of the County Administrative Board's seven units. Here, we work among other things to preserve biological diversity, promote outdoor recreation, establish and manage nature reserves, maintain our mountain trails, manage game populations, address reindeer husbandry issues, and conduct supervision and issue permits. Experts in these fields work with us and are eager to share their knowledge.

We work with respect, professionalism, and openness towards the county's inhabitants – together for a sustainable future!

Description

The Game Management Function is one of four functions within the Nature Conservation Unit. Staff members in this function actively work with the management of the county's game populations and handle issues such as ungulate and predator management, small game hunting on reindeer grazing mountains, large predator inventories, and matters related to reindeer husbandry. The function now needs to recruit a staff member for processing game cases, with a focus on ungulates and small game.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include case processing and administration, as well as dialogue with various stakeholders, primarily concerning ungulates and small game, although other tasks may also arise. You will prepare decision-making materials, inform, and engage in dialogue with different target groups. Examples of tasks include registering roe deer and moose management areas, registering and allocating moose hunting license areas, and evaluating inventory results. We review management and care plans, participate in information meetings, and lead training sessions. You will also participate in the preparation of issues handled by the county's game management delegation.

The work involves contact and collaboration internally within the County Administrative Board and externally with other authorities, organizations, and Sami reindeer herding districts. The work also includes other duties, such as responding to consultations from other authorities, issuing appointments, etc. On-call duty during certain times of the year may also be part of the role.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a relevant higher education, preferably with a focus on game management or other education that the employer deems relevant or equivalent. As the work may involve travel, a B driving license is also required.

We see that you are structured, quality-conscious, and have good administrative skills. As a person, you are secure and stable in an advisory role, you have a clearly good communicative ability both verbally and in writing, and you have an easy time building good relationships. You are also resilient, have the ability to prioritize, and to handle a high work pace during certain periods.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • experience in case processing or legal work within the public sector,
  • experience in game and predator management at an authority,
  • knowledge of game and predator management as well as hunting legislation,
  • knowledge of reindeer husbandry,
  • good local knowledge,
  • experience in contact with the media.

Conditions

Please note that in this recruitment, we have chosen to remove the cover letter. The information you provide and your answers to the selection questions will be important for our selection process. Therefore, ensure that you provide as relevant information as possible in your application.

Due to holiday periods, questions about the position will be answered by:

We offer you meaningful work with varied responsibilities. You will make a difference for our county and society. The County Administrative Board is a broad authority, which means you constantly get the opportunity to develop and learn new things. This applies to several policy areas.

As an employer, we focus heavily on good employment conditions, active work environment efforts, and health-promoting wellness activities. We value collaboration with our trade union partners and can offer remote work.

In the event of a permanent appointment at the County Administrative Board, you will be war-placed at the authority. Depending on the position, it may include service in a crisis team and security clearance. We usually start with a probationary period for permanent positions.
