Make a difference. Every day.
Welcome to the Thorax Department, a workplace where collaboration, care, and the patient's best interest always stand at the center. We look forward to welcoming you as a nurse and new colleague to our dedicated team, where you will have the opportunity to contribute your skills and be an important part of our work for the patients.
We care for patients undergoing coronary, heart valve, and aortic aneurysm surgery. We also provide National Highly Specialized Care for heart and lung transplants, as well as adult patients with congenital heart defects. The department has 21 beds. Most patients have a shorter stay, approximately six to eight days, while transplanted patients are cared for for approximately four to eight weeks.
We are a department that works largely according to the Magnet Model. As part of this, we include the Competence and Service Model (KTM), which is a development program for nurses with clear career paths, focusing on education and competence development.
Being a patient with advanced heart disease is challenging and requires person-centered care, which we strive to deliver every day. This includes, among other things, having primary nurse assistants (nurses and assistant nurses) who follow the same patients to ensure continuity. The patients' experience of their situation and health guides our daily work, and patients with more complex care pathways are discussed during nursing rounds twice a week. Different professions and job categories participate to enable excellent care together with the patients.
There is close collaboration between nurses, assistant nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, secretaries, service staff, and doctors to meet the patients' care needs in the best possible way. We value and facilitate various types of education, both academic and internal. On the department, we have specialist nurses who have extended nursing responsibility with the primary task of supporting the care of patients with complex nursing needs together with the regular care team. These specialists are an important knowledge resource in daily work.

Job Responsibilities
Two of our nurses have chosen to apply for specialist education this autumn, which is why we are now looking for you to join our team! Whether you are a newly graduated or experienced nurse, you have the chance to become part of our exciting department.
We offer great opportunities for experienced nurses to develop professionally, and for newly graduated nurses to build a highly sought-after competence. After working with us for a few years, there is an opportunity to receive paid specialist education in heart disease care. We constantly strive for high competence within the operation and see this as part of our nurses' career development.
We believe that competence and safe care are the foundation of a secure work environment, and therefore place great focus on both induction and further education. As a newly hired nurse, you will receive a tailored induction program that includes six weeks of shadowing, theory, and observation at nearby departments. Afterward, you will participate in our internal competence development program, KomUp, during your first year with us.
You will have a smooth start into the operation by gradually taking on increased responsibility for the team during your induction. Once you are settled in the work, you will, together with an assistant nurse, a doctor, and a responsible physiotherapist, be responsible for the nursing care of four to seven patients.
