About the position
In intermediate care, patients with failure in one or more organ systems are treated. These patients require a higher level of care and monitoring but do not fully require intensive care. Patients may have both medical and surgical diagnoses, so you will use your full skill set to meet and provide good care for the patient in often complex situations. The work is varied and involves a high pace, immediate actions, quick decisions, and you need the capacity to reassess the plan as treatment goals change.
We work to ensure the patient's needs for basic and advanced nursing care. Common tasks include handling central lines and arterial catheters for invasive blood pressure and blood gases, medication management with potent drugs such as vasopressors and sedation, drainage, advanced pain treatment, advanced wound care, tracheostomy care, and respiratory support treatment such as non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
As a specialist nurse, there is also the possibility of a clinical development assignment where you work mostly clinically but have 10% administrative work. Together with other specialist nurses with the same assignment, you are part of a larger collaboration working on care development, both within your own nursing area and within the hospital. IMA at Karolinska is at the forefront of developing and quality-assuring intermediate care as a care level and operation.
We are looking for you who
- are positive, driven, and genuinely interested in nursing, with the patient as a clear part of the team
- can adapt to the patient's needs and changing goals, as well as meet new situations with flexibility
- are responsible and engaged, with a desire to develop within advanced emergency care and intermediate care
- actively seek new knowledge and apply it in practice to contribute to operational development
- are confident in yourself and flexible in a changing daily life, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and act independently.
