The Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI) is an expert authority working towards safe, efficient, and sustainable construction, as well as the sustainable use of land and natural resources. Our tasks include preventing landslides, rockfalls, and coastal erosion. SGI also works on developing new methods for remediating contaminated areas. SGI falls under the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise and has a total of approximately 100 employees. The headquarters is located in Linköping, with offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö.
We are looking for you who have professional experience and are interested in contributing to reducing the risks of landslides and rockfalls. SGI provides geotechnical support to municipalities and county administrative boards in the planning and building process to long-term reduce risks in the built environment, and distributes state grants for preventive measures along the Göta River. We work with both research and advisory services, as well as knowledge dissemination, to contribute to safe and sustainable societal development. The societal need for support to prevent risks and avoid damage from natural disasters such as landslides, rockfalls, and erosion has increased and is expected to increase further due to exploitation and ongoing climate change. Therefore, we see an increased demand for our support regarding geotechnical issues, including in the planning process.
Job DescriptionYour duties consist of providing support to municipalities, county administrative boards, and authorities regarding geotechnics in the planning process. You will also lead stability investigations and support municipalities along the Göta River when they plan measures against landslides, rockfalls, and erosion.
You will be part of SGI's Planning Unit, which handles cases concerning detailed and general plans, infrastructure planning, and cases from the Land and Environment Court. The position also involves developing our operations and participating in cross-authority collaborations, leading to external contacts primarily with authorities and municipalities.
The work involves, in addition to leading your own assignments, contributing to other assignments within SGI's operations. The appointed employee will be part of SGI's emergency organization, which provides geotechnical support primarily to rescue services in the event of or at early indications of landslides or rockfalls.
QualificationsWe are looking for you who have:
• A Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering (Infrastructure) from a university of technology or equivalent competence assessed by the employer as equivalent.
• Good geotechnical knowledge regarding slope stability in areas with loose clays and quick clays.
• Experience in geotechnical investigation work and design.
It is meritorious if you have experience in geotechnical work during the execution phase of geotechnical measures and/or from work in another authority, as well as knowledge of the planning process.
We want you to have an interest in the development needs of society and the geotechnical industry. You must be able to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish and English. It is important that you find joy in external contacts, appreciate collaboration, and are inspired by our societal mission.
During the selection process, great importance will be placed on your personal suitability. To work with us, you must share the state's common value base: http://www.sgi.se/sv/om-sgi/sa-arbetar-vi/vardegrund-och-kompass/ (http://www.sgi.se/sv/om-sgi/sa-arbetar-vi/vardegrund-och-kompass/)
We OfferWe offer you the opportunity to be part of a socially important mission where you will work with developing and varied tasks, as well as good opportunities for competence development. At SGI, we value differences in background, experience, and competence and see them as a strength in our work. You will become part of a workplace characterized by engagement, joy of work, and a clear focus on employee well-being and development. As an employee, you are offered a favorable vacation agreement, opportunities for flexible working methods and remote work to some extent, as well as a generous wellness allowance and several other state benefits.
