The role of the Swedish Army School of Land Warfare (MSS) is to create the prerequisites, together with other parts of the army, for the Swedish Armed Forces to solve their assigned tasks in the best possible way, both nationally and internationally. MSS also performs tasks for the entire Armed Forces, such as the development and procurement of soldier-borne equipment, small arms, and support weapons. Your workplace is of the highest international rank regarding combat training facilities.

About the position

At STA MOUT (Combat Training Facility for Military Operations in Urban Terrain), you will have the opportunity to work with exciting tasks. You will be given both personal responsibility and good opportunities for professional development.

You will be part of an experienced and close-knit work group consisting of 3 operators, 1 simulator technician, 1 system technician, and 6 career officers (Commander, Deputy Commander/Company Commander, 4 Platoon Instructors).

As a Platoon Instructor for MOUT, you will face a variety of different tasks. Prior to exercises, your task is to analyze and create an exercise that meets the goals set by the exercising unit or our own Company Commander (KÖL).

In your role as Platoon Exercise Leader, you will physically follow the exercising unit in the facility as they perform their tasks, similar to a unit instructor (Blue-Gold), with the purpose of being able to evaluate in real-time during the exercise. At the end of each phase, evaluation is conducted based on your own observations and compiled data from an "Operator." This may include radio traffic, position/movement, neutralized targets, film/photo, or map situational pictures. The presentation format often takes place in PowerPoint within the facility.

The main task during an exercise is often to support troop-leading commanders. In some cases, you may be required to step in and lead the exercising unit yourself.

Outside of exercise activities, the role includes maintenance of equipment such as vehicles, weapons, etc. You are also involved in the maintenance of the facility, including the buildings (over 40 structures) and, to some extent, the technical systems.

Qualifications

  • Several years of background in a unit where combat is the main task, within the framework of platoon and company-level combat.
  • Good understanding of combat techniques at the platoon and company level.
  • Experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating platoon-level exercises.
  • An experienced educator with the competence to train individuals/platoons across the entire spectrum from low to very high educational levels.
  • Specialist competence as a Fire Control Officer, Fire Direction Officer, Tank Commander (Mechanized or Motorized).
  • Fluent Swedish in speech and writing.
  • Good knowledge of English.
  • Good physical fitness.

Meritorious qualifications

  • Weapons schools (AK4, AK5, AK24, AKM4, KSP58/90, P88).
  • Competence in indirect fire, maintenance, technical service, UAV.
  • Competence in night vision equipment such as sights and portable sensors.
  • Competence in simulators corresponding to the needs of a rifle platoon.
  • Multiple operator licenses (wheel loader, all-terrain vehicle, off-road vehicle).

Personal qualities

  • A good colleague who is loyal, receptive, and shows good judgment, and who easily interacts with different types of people.
  • A willingness and commitment to raise the troop's competence in training situations to achieve set goals. Focus on learning rather than testing/judging.
  • High integrity towards the work group, but also towards exercising units and other stakeholders.
  • Thorough, structured, enduring, driven, and solution-oriented.
  • Curious and quick to learn when conducting various (internal) trainings, particularly focused on urban terrain combat.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
