The Left Party is seeking a Political Secretary for the European Parliament
Do you want to help drive left-wing politics in the EU and improve everyday life for ordinary people? The Left Party is looking for a Political Secretary who, together with our MEPs and the party office, will work towards a more equal, transparent, and solidaristic Europe. We doubled our mandate in the European Parliament in the 2024 election and now have a party office with ten employees, consisting of political secretaries and communicators, all working closely with our MEPs to achieve our political goals and support them in their duties.
Our political priorities focus on highlighting and implementing a system-changing green transition across Europe, where major polluters and the very wealthy pay their fair share, allowing ordinary people to live better lives. We prioritize using our influence in the EU to impact everyday life and the future in Sweden. This means we work to:
- Ensure ordinary people can afford a better life
- Have the super-rich contribute more
- Implement a green transition for ordinary people
- Regain democratic control over vital public services such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and the green transition
We are now looking for you who want to be part of this work. You will work in one or more of the committees in which our MEPs serve. These include the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, the Industry Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Committee on Budgetary Control, the Committee on Climate Change, and the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee. You will work closely with Jonas Sjöstedt and Hanna Gedin in their committee work. You will also be involved in other tasks within the party office.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare background materials, follow legislative processes, and develop political proposals.
- Analyze and monitor political developments.
- Participate in and prepare meetings with other left-wing parties within the European left.
- Write speech points, articles, and other texts for the MEPs.
- Work on communication efforts in close cooperation with the press secretary – especially in digital channels and social media.
- Actively participate in the office's joint planning and other tasks as needed.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Relevant academic education.
- Excellent knowledge of politics.
- Experience working with EU issues or in politically governed organizations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English.
- Good teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently.
- Ability to handle a sometimes high pace and work against deadlines.
Merits:
- Education or experience in EU law or economics.
- Knowledge of the Left Party's politics and ideology.
- Experience of international work or studies.
- Knowledge of other EU languages.
Practical Information:
The position is located at the Left Party's EU office in Brussels. The work involves travel to Strasbourg during the Parliament's plenary weeks and irregular working hours. We assume that you share the Left Party's values.
