Geotechnical Engineer at the Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI)

The Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI) is an expert authority working towards safe, efficient, and sustainable construction, as well as the sustainable use of land and natural resources. Our tasks include preventing landslides, rockfalls, and coastal erosion. SGI also works on developing new methods for remediating contaminated areas. SGI falls under the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise and has a total of approximately 100 employees. The headquarters is located in Linköping, with offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö.

We are looking for you who have professional experience and are interested in providing geotechnical support to municipalities and county administrative boards in the planning and construction process.

We work with both research and advisory services, as well as knowledge dissemination, to contribute to safe and sustainable societal development. We do this, among other things, by supporting authorities and municipalities with geotechnical issues. The societal need for support to prevent risks and avoid damage during natural disasters such as landslides, rockfalls, and erosion has increased and will likely increase further due to exploitation and ongoing climate change. Therefore, we see an increased demand for our support regarding geotechnical issues, particularly in the planning process.

1 position(s).

Job Description

Your main tasks will consist of providing support to municipalities, county administrative boards, and authorities regarding geotechnics in the planning process. You will also provide support to the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) in matters concerning state grants for preventive measures against natural disasters, as well as working with knowledge dissemination and development within the geotechnical field.

You will be part of SGI's Planning Unit, which handles cases concerning detailed and general plans, infrastructure planning, and cases from the Land and Environment Court. The position also involves developing our operations and participating in cross-authority collaborations. This leads to many external contacts, primarily with authorities and municipalities. The work involves, in addition to leading your own assignments, also contributing to other assignments within SGI's operations.

The position also includes participation in our knowledge dissemination activities, such as courses, seminars, and lectures. The appointed person will be part of SGI's emergency organization as geotechnical support, primarily for the rescue services when landslides or rockfalls have occurred or are feared (TiB - person on call).

Qualifications

We are looking for you with a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Road and Water Engineering program (Civil Engineering) at a technical university or equivalent competence assessed by the employer. You should also have experience in geotechnical investigation or review work.

The position requires good knowledge of slope stability and foundation engineering, as well as geotechnical investigation and design work. Work experience in geotechnical work in the planning process and related knowledge of the Planning and Building Act, as well as experience working at another authority, are meritorious.

We want you to have an interest in the development needs of society and the geotechnical industry. You should be able to express yourself well in speech and writing in both Swedish and English. It is important that you find joy in external contacts, appreciate collaboration, and are inspired by our societal mission.

In the selection process, great weight will be placed on your personal suitability. To work with us, you must share the state's common value base, http://www.sgi.se/sv/om-sgi/sa-arbetar-vi/vardegrund-och-kompass/ (http://www.sgi.se/sv/om-sgi/sa-arbetar-vi/vardegrund-och-kompass/)

Salary: Monthly salary.

We offer you

We offer you a part of a socially important mission where you get to work with developing and varied tasks, as well as good opportunities for competence development. Here, we value differences in background, experience, and competence and see them as a strength in our work. We strive to be an attractive, inclusive, and sustainable employer where you are given the opportunity to thrive and grow. We apply individual and differentiated salary setting, in accordance with state guidelines and current regulations.
