About the Position

Social work within healthcare has the mission to conduct clinical work, research, and education. We perform social interventions, psychosocial treatment, and social counseling for patients and their relatives in coordination with Karolinska University Hospital's various mission clinics as well as other commissioning bodies.

The section receives patients from Infection, Inflammation and Ageing, Heart Vessel Neuro site-overarching, primarily in Solna and Huddinge, both in inpatient and outpatient care. The work is structured so that you primarily have a responsibility towards a specific clinic and/or ward. Current areas at the time of the announcement are the HIV clinic and nephrology. As an employee, you are expected to meet patients from other medical themes within and outside the section, as well as at other sites if needed.

As a social worker, you will meet patients undergoing investigation or who have recently received a somatic diagnosis, as well as people affected by acute and traumatic events, those with chronic diseases, or those in palliative stages within various medical fields. The assignment also includes providing support to relatives and conducting bereavement conversations.

Your main task is to work curatively with social and psychosocial investigations, assessments, and treatments – always with a holistic view of the human being. The work takes place in a medical team around the patient, where the social worker is expected to take an active part.

Daily duties include among others:

  • crisis and support conversations with patients and relatives
  • counseling on social issues
  • contact with authorities
  • collaboration with other healthcare providers and voluntary organizations
  • receiving and supervising social work students
  • leading group activities.

The duties also include contributing to operational development, for example in working methods, quality, and processes based on evidence and patient needs. Weekend work may be included as part of the position.

The announcement concerns two fixed-term positions of 11 months.

  • Is calm, stable, and controlled in stressful or pressured situations. Maintains a realistic perspective on situations and focuses on the right things.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Degree in Social Work (Social Work Master's degree)
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written

Merits:

  • Licensed healthcare social worker
  • Experience in social work within healthcare
  • Master's degree in Social Work
  • Experience in psychosocial work with HIV patients or nephrology
