The Employment and Integration Department is responsible for the integration of newly arrived immigrants, labor market issues, and Municipal Activity Responsibility (KAA) in Umeå Municipality. We are a key player in promoting social sustainability and inclusion in Umeå. We support individuals towards employment and studies and contribute to employers' competence supply and inclusive workplaces. We have Sweden's most important job – our mission is to provide hope for the future.

The work is carried out in close collaboration with actors such as social services, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Swedish Public Employment Service, Region Västerbotten, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, and employers. We are an active part of the collaboration platform "Arbetsmarknadstorget" (Labor Market Square), where we, together with government agencies, offer coordinated support to individuals who need help moving forward into work or studies.

The operations are highly dependent on external factors such as societal development, political decisions, changes in legislation, and labor market conditions. These changes require continuous development and adaptation of the operations.

Do you want to contribute to us in the role of Study and Career Counselor?

Your responsibilities

As a new Study and Career Counselor within the department, you will collaborate with existing counselors within Municipal Activity Responsibility (KAA, School Act Chapter 29, Section 9). The assignment includes supporting, motivating, and guiding young people and adults, both individually and in groups, to clarify pathways towards studies or work. The work involves short and long-term processes with participants who are far from the labor and study market, which requires a coaching approach, the ability to monitor progress over time, and the courage to explore paths together with individuals who have lost motivation.

The assignment involves creating conditions to start/resume studies or to take steps towards practice/work. Collaboration with various actors, support in applications to different educational alternatives, and planning, monitoring, and concluding internship placements are included in the role. You will actively contribute to developing the department's work regarding studies by highlighting studies as an alternative for all ages. Documentation tasks within KAA require that you have the willingness to learn or knowledge of relevant systems for monitoring. Other documentation is done according to routines in the current business system.

About you

You have high social competence, good communication and collaboration skills. You easily build trusting relationships and foster hope for the future with young people, guardians, and older participants. You are engaged, self-reliant, and structured, with good prioritization skills, resilient in your work, and have a quality-conscious approach. Furthermore, you are flexible, relationship-building, and thrive working both independently and in teams. Working within the Employment and Integration Department requires an interest and willingness to constantly develop and contribute to the development of the operations. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements

  • Degree from the Study and Career Counseling program.
  • Knowledge and experience of the education system, guidance from primary to upper secondary school, and knowledge of the labor market.
  • Experience in meeting participants with varying needs for special support.
  • Experience with ADHD/Autism spectrum disorders (NPF), physical/mental illness, or norm-breaking behaviors.
  • Category B driver's license.
  • Fluent Swedish in speech and writing, and good knowledge of English.

We look forward to receiving your application!
