Do you want to work in a high-tech environment where materials engineering meets the aerospace, space, and defense industries? We are now looking for a meticulous and curious metallographer or materials engineer for the laboratory operations at GKN Aerospace in Trollhättan.
About the company
GKN Aerospace Sweden is part of GKN Aerospace, which manufactures engine components, aircraft structures, cabin windows, wiring, and much more for many of the world's aircraft. The companies in the Aerospace division working on jet engine parts form Engines together, and at the facility in Trollhättan, advanced parts for aircraft and space rocket engines are developed and manufactured. They also work on engine maintenance.
GKN Aerospace has production facilities in Trollhättan, Kongsberg (Norway), Mexico, and the USA. They also have an engineering office in Bangalore, India, and offices in Stockholm (Public Affairs) and Gothenburg. The headquarters for Engines is located in Trollhättan.
As a Materials Engineer/Metallographer with us, you will become part of the Material & Chemical Laboratory department, which is part of Engineering Operations. Here, specialists within chemical analysis, metallography, and thermal spray technology support production, research, and development. In this role, you will work closely with engineers, operators, and internal customers – focusing on materials technical analysis and contributing to improvements in processes and products.
Your responsibilities
In the role of metallographer/materials engineer, you will have a varied daily routine where you work both practically in the lab and close to engineers and production. You are responsible for preparing and analyzing material samples and contributing to improvements in processes and methods.
Your responsibilities include, among other things:
- Preparing samples through cutting, casting, and polishing
- Performing tests and preparing documentation for material evaluation
- Supporting microscopy investigations and documenting results in reports
- Working with analyses of thermally sprayed, additively manufactured, and metallographic samples
- Participating in improvement work together with colleagues within the laboratory and research
- Contributing to the development and quality assurance of IT systems and laboratory equipment
Your profile
We are looking for someone who thrives in a technical and lab-close environment where precision and problem-solving are central. You are used to taking responsibility for your work, while also appreciating collaboration and building good relationships with both colleagues and internal customers.
To succeed in the role, we see that you have:
- A relevant technical education, preferably an MSc in Materials Science or similar
- An interest in laboratory and inspection work
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (experience with lab or materials systems is advantageous)
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
We also believe that you are a practical person who enjoys working hands-on in a lab environment. If you also have experience with or an interest in laboratory equipment, such as cutting tools, that is an extra plus.
The position requires that you undergo and are approved according to current security clearance regulations. For positions where GKN's customer has requirements for security classification, this may, in some cases, entail requirements for specific citizenship.
Application process
In this recruitment, GKN Aerospace collaborates with Skill. The position is a consultancy assignment where you will initially be employed by Skill with opportunities for transition to GKN.
Selection is ongoing, and the position may be filled before the application deadline. Therefore, apply today!
If you have questions about the position, you are welcome to contact the responsible recruiter, Olivia Rogö, at [email protected]
