The Department for Strategic Municipal Development is part of the Municipal Development Office within the Municipal Executive Board's administration. Here, conditions are created for long-term sustainable municipal development through assignments in strategic municipal planning, ecological sustainability with a focus on climate, nature, and water, as well as social sustainability through issues such as public health and crime prevention. RESPONSIBILITIES

As one of several urban planners here, you work on planning for sustainable development in the early stages across the entire municipality. Our projects range from overarching strategies, master planning, transformation of geographical areas, to larger development projects.

You are responsible for developing well-thought-out proposals and driving issues that are important for the municipality. The assignment includes close collaboration with other competencies within the municipality's organization and participation in other departments' assignments. We work closely with planning architects, municipal ecologists, traffic planners, and landscape architects. We work in an activity-based office together with other municipal development departments.

In the role of urban planner, you are part of a working group that collectively focuses on a sustainably growing Varberg. You will work in the early stages of development for both the city and the countryside. We are currently facing tasks such as creating a new detailed master plan for the urban area, developing the Värö Peninsula, and creating new knowledge bases within the cultural heritage field.

We value your experience, your ideas, and your creativity. As an urban planner, you are expected to get up to speed relatively quickly and take significant responsibility for various assignments. Together with your colleagues, you contribute to our innovative working methods that develop our operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for you who have a relevant university degree in physical planning, urban planning, community building, architecture, or similar.

Work experience within urban planning is meritorious. We would like you to have experience from master planning at different levels and be well acquainted with the Planning and Building Act, the Environmental Code, and other relevant legislation related to master planning, as well as experience in public administration. You are welcome to have interest and knowledge in the field of cultural heritage.

You are accustomed to working in a project-based manner and have good collaboration skills. Through clear communication and a structured and efficient working method, you achieve good results. Your ability to see the big picture and balance different interests is crucial for a good final result.

You are a proficient user of the Adobe suite and QGIS. We also value knowledge and skills in other programs that are relevant for overview physical planning.

It is fundamental that you can communicate clearly and have very good knowledge of the Swedish language, both orally and in writing. You have good initiative and thrive working independently to drive your assignments and processes. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

• Salary: Monthly salary.
• Employment type: Fixed-term employment.
• Duration: Start date 2026-09-14, end date 2027-07-31. Start date by agreement.
