The Department of Data and Electrical Engineering offers education in computer technology, electronics, electrical engineering, and sound production. Research at the department is conducted at the research centre Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc) and focuses on sensor-based systems and services for use in the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

Job Description

Mid Sweden University is seeking a talented and motivated candidate with a strong background in multidimensional image processing, computer vision, and deep learning to implement innovative visual AI for the next generation of immersive media for remote presence and operation.

The work and development for this position will be carried out within the Research Group Realistic 3D at the STC research centre in the IMMERSE project.

The subject of computer technology encompasses techniques, theories, and methodological aspects of computer construction, function, and applications, including both hardware and software. The subject of computer technology for doctoral education at Mid Sweden University consists of three specializations – communication networks, data analysis, and multidimensional signal processing.

Qualifications

The person employed as a Research Engineer must meet the requirements described in Mid Sweden University's employment regulations.

Eligible for this Research Engineer position is someone with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer technology, computer science, software development, or a similar field.

Assessment Criteria

The candidate is expected to have experience in image processing, computer vision, and deep learning; very good skills in software development and implementation of deep learning, using e.g., Python/PyTorch/Tensorflow etc.; and excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.

Previous experience in the following areas is meritorious: immersive media and high-performance computing (HPC) as well as parallel computing on GPUs.

Personal attributes required for the position are analytical, systematic, communicative, and the ability to work both independently and in teams. Additional desirable attributes are taking initiative and being goal-oriented.

Other Assessment Criteria

Other assessment criteria include larger software projects and other activities relevant to the position.

The employment is processed in accordance with Mid Sweden University's employment regulations.

Employment and Start Date

The employment is a fixed-term special appointment and covers 100% for 11 months from 2026-09-01 or as agreed, but no later than 2027-07-31.
