Business Administration is one of the largest subjects at Mid Sweden University, with operations of roughly equal size in Sundsvall and Östersund. The subject offers education at both undergraduate and advanced levels, including a Master of Science in Business Administration programme with two specializations: Marketing & Business Development and Accounting & Finance. Business administration research in Sundsvall is closely linked to the Centre for Research on Economic Relations (CER), focusing on areas such as banking, insurance, pensions, and lifelong learning. Research in Östersund is profiled towards entrepreneurship, business development, and tourism. The operations are characterized to a large extent by collaboration with the surrounding society in terms of joint research projects and commissioned education.
The advertised position is for a PhD student funded by the Foundation for Knowledge and Competence Development (KK Foundation) and is connected to the activities conducted at CER. The position focuses on lifelong learning as a strategic resource for organizational development, with a specific focus on the learning of professionals in an increasingly digitized financial sector. The specific direction of the work will be formulated in consultation with appointed supervisors. The employment entails obligations towards the funder (KK Foundation).
The position requires familiarity with empirical research methods, as a large part of the research is conducted in collaboration with actors in the surrounding society. It is crucial that the doctoral student can contribute to the activities at CER by being physically present at the host location. The position is intended to lead to a doctoral degree.
Responsibilities
Doctoral studies (100%). Other duties at the department, such as teaching and/or administrative work, may potentially be included within the scope of the employment.
Qualifications
Basic eligibility is granted to those who have completed an advanced level degree or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at the advanced level, or have otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country. Special eligibility is granted to those who have at least 90 higher education credits in Business Administration or have otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.

We are looking for someone who enjoys challenges, has a good ability to take initiative and work independently. Other qualities we value include being results-oriented, having the ability to collaborate, and being clear in communication with others. Furthermore, we place importance on a good ability to express oneself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English, as well as the ability to handle pressure.
Selection Criteria
Selection among applicants who meet the eligibility requirements is made with regard to the ability to benefit from the doctoral education. Selection is based on the following criteria: For the position, documented aptitude for research is required, demonstrated in bachelor's and/or master's theses and other written achievements, as well as a good ability to work both independently and in a research group. The application must be accompanied by a project sketch (maximum four A4 pages), which should contain a dissertation idea and a proposed plan for how the idea can be implemented.
Processing
The processing of the employment follows the forms specified in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance and proceeds in accordance with Mid Sweden University's employment regulations.
Employment and Start Date
The PhD position corresponds to four years of full-time studies and is expected to lead to a doctoral degree. If the pace of the doctoral education changes, the employment period will change accordingly.
A new PhD employment is valid for a maximum of one year, and the employment may thereafter be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. Regulations concerning PhD employment can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 5, Sections 1-7.
Start date: 2026-09-01 or as agreed.
