The Child and Adolescent Rehabilitation Unit (BUH) is a specialist unit within the regional healthcare system providing support to children and young people aged 0–21 and their families. The service targets children and young people with congenital or early-acquired disabilities that are persistent and require interdisciplinary interventions to help manage daily challenges. In addition to its core mission, the unit is responsible for supplementary assignments including the Eating Team, Rehabilitation Team, and Follow-up of At-Risk Children.
Organizationally, the unit is divided into a children's team, a youth team, and two autism teams, with an overarching medical coordination group distributed among the teams. The unit consists of 45 employees across various roles: occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dietitians, speech therapists, psychologists, social workers, childcare workers, special educators, pediatric nurses, urotherapists, pediatric neurologists, supported by administrative assistance from medical secretaries. Interventions are delivered through interdisciplinary teams focused on the child/young person and their network.
The Child and Adolescent Rehabilitation Unit is part of the "Children and Young Adults" (BUV) area, alongside Adult Rehabilitation, Parent and Child Health Services, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. These four units are co-located centrally at Köpmangatan 24 in Östersund.
1 position(s).
As a Special Educator at BUH, your responsibilities will focus on younger children with neurosomatic and neuropsychiatric disabilities, such as motor impairments, intellectual disabilities, autism, or multiple disabilities. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team surrounding the child, where your expertise as a special educator forms the pedagogical component of the intervention.
On the unit, you will have two experienced special educator colleagues, enabling close collegial exchange, supervision, and mentorship. Together, you will hold regular professional meetings to discuss work-related issues.
Tasks include preschool and school observations, assessments prior to investigations, and interventions providing support to the child's network regarding handling during play, interaction, and communication. Interventions may take place in the child's home, preschool/school, and at BUH. The special educator works to create good conditions for the child's learning and skill development through pedagogical methods and aids, as well as through group therapy and further education for the child's network. Interventions are designed and planned based on each child's specific needs, personal goals, and conditions.
As a Special Educator at BUH, you are the pedagogical voice of the team. All staff work towards the child's participation in their rehabilitation, but as a special educator, you have an additional responsibility to help colleagues understand how to include the child considering their specific conditions. Together with your colleagues, you ensure that decisions regarding the child are made based on the child's best interests.
It is a requirement that you have worked with preschool-aged children. Experience working within child and adolescent rehabilitation is advantageous. You must have knowledge of and a willingness to engage in teamwork as a working method and collaborate within your own discipline depending on the task. Knowledge and experience in applied behavior analysis and intensive behavioral training for young children are advantageous.
The role places high demands on the ability to create structure, both for your own planning and in collaboration with colleagues. Communication and responsibility regarding your own tasks, as well as the ability to manage the boundaries of colleagues' tasks, are central to the operation.
Great importance is attached to personal suitability, work experience, and teamwork skills, and we welcome diversity in the work team.
A degree in Special Education or ongoing/planned studies towards a Special Education degree is required.
A valid B-driver's license is required.
Employment type: Permanent position.
Duration: Permanent, Start date: As agreed.
