The Investigation Section, which is one of five sections at the Regional Investigation Unit in Police Region North, handles investigations into serious crimes, cold cases, environmental and occupational health and safety offenses, technical surveillance, and camera technology.

The Camera Surveillance Center (CSC) in Region North currently consists of four operators and has been in operation since 2024. The camera operators work in shifts and, when fully operational, will work around the clock in close cooperation with other operational activities in the region.

We are now looking for two camera operators based in Umeå.

Job Description

Your primary tasks as a camera operator will be to monitor areas in real-time using the police's cameras and other sensors, and to provide situational awareness to the operational work in the region. Most of this will be done in collaboration with external and internal personnel in incident-driven work, but also during planned operations. In addition, you will independently work on preventing, detecting, and investigating crimes and disturbances throughout the region by actively using the police's various sensors, both in real-time and retrospectively.

In addition to general camera surveillance, the group has been assigned new sensors and functions during 2026 and will continue to receive additional new sensors and functions, including C-UAV (drone defense), AI tools for analyzing real-time video streams, and the "Drone as First Responder" (DFR) capability. The DFR capability means that drones placed at strategic locations are activated and controlled from the police's Camera Surveillance Center. Consequently, your role as a camera operator at the CSC may eventually also involve a role as a remote pilot.

In the role of camera operator, there will be great opportunities to shape the unit's routines and methods together with the rest of the group. The tasks and assignments will be continuously developed to improve efficiency. As an operator, you are expected to contribute to this development. Since the work is performed in several different systems, it is important that you learn quickly and enjoy digital working methods.

As the work takes place in an operational context, it places high demands on the ability to switch pace, stress tolerance, flexibility, as well as good communication, simultaneous processing, and prioritization skills.

Qualifications

This is an opportunity for you who have:

• a completed upper secondary education
• knowledge of and comfort with digital systems, and experience using the computer as a work tool
• good vision (with or without glasses/contacts) and full color vision. A certificate from a licensed optician must be presented at the interview and must not be older than six months
• good proficiency in Swedish
• Swedish citizenship
• Category B driver's license

It is meritorious if you also have:

• work experience as a camera operator at one of the police's camera surveillance centers
• previous work experience within the Swedish Police Authority that the employer deems relevant
• recent work experience from another state law enforcement agency that the employer deems relevant
• recent experience in another closely related field that the employer deems relevant
