Department of Forest Resource Management
Do you have experience with pcSKOG and/or Heureka, and would you like to support students in the Forest Planning course offered in autumn 2026?
About the job
The Forest Planning course (15 credits) is divided into three modules. The first two modules focus on forest management planning and planning theory, while the third module covers long-term forest planning using the Heureka system. Your role will involve supervising students in the preliminary work and compilation of forest management plans using the pcSKOG software, as well as assisting students during exercises with Heureka BeståndsVis and PlanVis. The work primarily entails helping students learn to use these software programs in a pedagogical manner. You will also deepen your own knowledge by guiding others.
Your background
We prefer candidates who are or have recently been forestry students at SLU. You should have experience with the planning software pcSKOG and/or Heureka’s BeståndsVis and PlanVis. Knowledge of both systems is considered an asset. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, takes responsibility for their work, and has good collaborative skills.
About us
The Department of Forest Resource Management conducts education and research in the fields of forest remote sensing, forest inventory and sampling, forest planning, forest mathematical statistics, and landscape studies. The department is also responsible for implementing the ongoing environmental analysis programs, the National Forest Inventory and the National Land Cover Survey in Sweden. These inventories cover coastal areas, mountains, grasslands, deciduous forests, as well as butterflies and bumblebees. Our operations combine research and environmental analysis in cross-disciplinary projects, providing unique opportunities to develop holistic concepts for the sustainable use of natural resources. In total, we have approximately 120 employees, and during the summer half-year, we add around 90 seasonal employees for our field inventories.
