Subject/Subject Description

Human geography deals with the relationship between people and places. The subject is based on human geographical and social science theoretical frameworks. Urban and regional planning involves balancing and weighing different interests against each other and creating conditions for sustainable development. The Department of Human Geography has a broad social science geographical profile, and teaching takes place in the main areas of Human Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, and Global Development. We also participate in several interdisciplinary programs at both undergraduate and advanced levels.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include teaching, research, and administration, as well as following and contributing to the development within the field of urban and regional planning from both a research and teaching perspective.

Teaching primarily takes place on the urban and regional planning programs at the undergraduate and advanced levels, but teaching also occurs within other programs. Undergraduate teaching is conducted mainly in Swedish, while advanced-level teaching is conducted in English. During the first two years, teaching duties are expected to amount to at least 50%.

The employment includes competence and research time according to the current collective agreement.

Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as University Lecturer is one who has completed a PhD in Human Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, or has equivalent scientific competence, as well as demonstrated pedagogical skill.

A requirement is to have pedagogical and research merits within the field of urban and regional planning.

The applicant must have both the ability to collaborate and the general ability and suitability required to perform the duties of the position well.

To perform the duties of the position, the applicant must have documented proficiency in using Swedish in speech and writing at a professional level. This is demonstrated, for example, through documented experience of teaching in Swedish or a certificate of language skills corresponding to at least B2 level (CEFR).

Evaluation Criteria

Particular and equal weight is given to pedagogical and scientific skill within the field of urban and regional planning.

Pedagogical skill is normally demonstrated through teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels. The skill must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical activity.

Great weight is attached to documented ability to collaborate with colleagues and co-workers.

Great weight is attached to having successfully planned, applied for, and obtained grants for research projects from external funders within the main area of urban and regional planning.

Great weight is attached to knowledge of Swedish urban and regional planning, as well as planning theory and/or practical experience.

Weight is given to administrative skill as well as the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work.

Meritorious is higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways.

About the Position

The position is permanent and full-time, with a start date to be agreed upon. A six-month probationary period may apply.

Applicants who lack higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits and who are not assessed to have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways must undergo such training during the first two years of employment.
