Responsibilities

The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) is driving unprecedented demand for large-scale AI data centers, creating new challenges for power supply, energy efficiency, resilience, and grid integration. At the same time, Arctic and sub-Arctic regions are becoming attractive locations for AI data centers due to their naturally cold climate, which significantly reduces cooling requirements. These trends require next-generation microgrids and power electronics technologies to ensure reliable and sustainable operation.

This project focuses on the design, modeling, control, and management of microgrids for AI data centers. The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency in close collaboration with Arjeplog Municipality, providing a unique real-world Arctic test environment.

Qualifications

Requirements

• A completed PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
• Strong research expertise in at least one of the following fields: microgrids, power systems, or power electronics.
• Strong knowledge of power electronics or solid programming skills.

Merits

• PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline.
• Experience with power systems for AI data centers, microgrids, solid-state transformers, DC/DC converters, inverters, etc.
• Experience with modeling and stability analysis.
• Experience with hardware development or real-time simulation.
• Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues, with a particular focus on gender equality.

Application

About the Position

The position is permanent, but for a maximum of two years.

A postdoctoral position is a time-limited qualifying appointment with a main focus on research, intended as a first career step after the PhD defense.
